Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 22

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

Hmm, a Sayuri in love is actually pretty cute—she doesn’t have that annoying ‘perfect, caring school idol’ aura around her when this happens. Her aggressiveness has been conveniently upped for the final episodes, while it seems that Mina and Tsukasa have been wipe from the competition completely. Their appearances, in my opinion, are now solely for the purpose of bringing some material plot into the show. The show is still as unbelievable as always, with Aoba somehow getting three girls into his house. But oh well, it’s been like that for twenty episodes now.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 21

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

It seems that Tomimeki Memorial has finally decided to begin the major plot, to which the rest of the show has been unnecessarily building up to until now. All the other episodes are really just wastes—Tokimeki Memorial would have been good enough as a 12-13 episode series. Anyway though, hopefully the Riku x Sayuri thing will continue for the remaining episodes, as that’s the only thing that seems to give the show some direction. Sayuri does a lot of blushing this episode, which makes her feelings even clearer, though Riku is as thick-headed as ever, obviously.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 20

Rating: 7.8/10

Impressions:

The sad thing is, these last three episodes have made my liking of Kasuga and Mina increase quite a bit, where the Aoba’s obviously not going to end up with either of them. The quality’s been really high as well, especially for the facial drawings, which have been excellent lately. Mina’s personality has finally changed for the better, as she’s realised that being forceful is futile when it comes to Aoba. The way she asks Aoba out in this episode is really cute and I wish she had been like that since the beginning. Mina’s personality has always been likeable so no problems there. Only problem now is Amamiya, but luckily that’s improving too with her asking Aoba to go home together.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 19

Rating: 7.8/10

Impressions:

Wow, another nice, serious episode. I guess Tokimeki Memorial really is better when it actually presents some serious relationship problems, as opposed to the ridiculousness of random events that don’t advance the story, or develop characters. Seeing as how the last episode kind of left off with the ‘you have lost’ feel for Kasuga, this episode apparently does the same for Mina. Sadly, this episode, the one that’s probably meant to break off the other competitor-that-never-stood-a-chance makes me like her a lot more, even though not giving replies to messages is made to look far too emotional than it really is…

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 18

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

This turned out to be quite a sad episode regarding Kasuga, as she’s finally realised there’s no chance of her being with Aoba together for much longer (though she does try to deny this in the beginning). What’s worse, she tries to endure her fever, even though Aoba obviously doesn’t appreciate anything she does, as Amamiya is probably constantly in his mind. The good thing though, is at least both Aoba and Amamiya are pretty eager on seeing each other. This will hopefully lead to a firm pairing in the future. Ah, and Mina is getting ignored as well…how sad. Unfortunately, Mina’s character hasn’t been fleshed out nearly enough in my opinion.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 17

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

I have to admit, this episode makes a huge jump in eventfulness from the last episode. Sayuri actually goes looking for Aoba through the entire day, and if that’s not a confession of love, nothing is ever going to happen. Seriously. I was disappointed to see that they didn’t confess or anything, but knowing Tokimeki Memorial, I’d say it would be lucky if Aoba actually gets with anyone in the end. On another note, a new ED comes with this episode, which took me by surprise as there are only like 7 episodes left. In any case though, I like the new ED far more than the last one (as well as the OP). It’s the type of sequence that makes the anime look much better than it really is.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 16

Rating: 6/10

Impressions:

Tokimeki Memorial is getting a little heavy on the supernatural side, though it being a harem/comedy show, things like afro goddesses and ghosts aren’t much of a problem. By this point, with nothing actually happening, I’m getting pretty tired of the show. The stories presented in each episode aren’t strong enough for standalones, yet there’s no real character development or plot movement happening either. The one thing that actually has some substance would be Amamiya getting jealous (either over Riku or over the girls fawning over him), though this once again doesn’t amount to anything in particular. Sigh, hopefully things get better next episode.

Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 15

Now this is the kind of not-so-normal episode I’ve been waiting for! I have to say though, the teacher (dammit forgot her name) must’ve been pretty stressed if she actually found her heart throbbing over someone over an internet game, someone who mightn’t have been a guy at all. I do understand that she treats it more as something solely for comfort, and in the end the episode does make you feel good (it did to me at least). In any case though, it’s nice to know that Sumio IS actually a nice guy in real life (’real life’ in the anime mind you). I don’t think the teacher will get another such episode, but hopefully another character will.
