Nagasarete Airantou: Episode 7

Rating: 8.6/10
Impressions:
I really didn’t like this part of the manga much, as a story about talking cats and dogs isn’t all that attractive, especially when there’s still plenty of Machi to animate. The second half of the episode is a lot better at least, though it feels a lot like some rehash of another story that’s already been told. I’m not saying it’s getting boring, as it’s still far from that, but I just really can’t wait until the big turn of the show where Suzu actually develops feelings! Being 26 episodes, it’s only normal that something like this won’t come until later. But seeing as how there’s already around ten volumes released in Japan, there’s either going to be a sequel or the anime will just end untimely…

The episode was animated just so that Suzu sort of understands about guys protecting girls in the end, and ultimately getting her closer to Ikuto. It bothers me that at the start of the episode, Suzu is depicted as strong and reliable, and starts crying in the end. In the moment, it would seem like the right thing to do, but can such an incident really make Suzu so weak? I guess Suzu was attacked emotionally as well, but this does make it a lot better when you see Ikuto there with her, comforting her. The scenes at the end are probably won’t amount to anything yet, but I’m sure something will develop eventually.

Even in the manga, the only thing I actually found interesting instead of amusing was the development between Suzu and Ikuto, which I believe has just begun to reveal itself this episode. Was that a hint of disappointment I sensed in the closing scenes in Suzu? Well, apart from that, we got another nice and humorous episode, well laid-back and fun to watch. The random talking animals are another example of the crazy things that occur on this island. Ahh, it might seem childish with the cutesy sheep and talking bears, but I find it hilarious! We even get a random appearance by Ayane, though I wonder where Machi has gone…The show is very incomplete without her.

In terms of plot, the anime seems to be jumping all over the place, but this doesn’t really matter as long as it doesn’t affect the progress of any relationship development. For the moment, the show will probably go into many disjointed episodic stories that introduce/reinforce any characters that have yet to be familiarised. One I’m certainly looking forward to is a Machi-feature episode. Chikage is also pretty interesting, and I would love to see when she finally learns the ‘truth’ about people of the opposite sex. xD Her character highly amusing, mainly due to her split-personality…though I guess everyone sort of has a split personality due to their raging hormones…

This show keeps getting better, and it’s great how I cannot remember how the manga progresses at all! The most hilarious ideas are the wacky lifeforms on the island. I especially love their ’sheep’, which made me crack up the most in both the manga and this episode. In fact, the whole island, and the idea of there being no male, is pretty sweet if you ask me. The potential for comedy is very high, and from where I’ve read up to in the manga, the characters really begin to develop. I’m hoping Suzu starts taking some action soon. Although she isn’t my favourite character (Machi is), she’s my favourite pairing for Ikuto.

I haven’t given a proper introduction to this series yet have I? Well ok, this is one of those series I had highly anticipated due to my interest in the manga, though had some doubt to whether it would live up to the greatness of the manga and not get let down my poor execution or production value. If that had been the case, I would be better off blogging something like Seirei no Moribito (watched first two episodes, yep I agree it’s awesome), or Kissdum (again watched first two episode, also very nice but maybe animation is dropping), or perhaps Heroic Age (not as good but still good). Luckily, Nagasarete Airantou IS as good as I hoped, and I will be blogging it definitely.
