Muteki Kanban Musume: Episode 4

Impressions:
What and episode! There was hardly a moment that I wasn’t laughing. It’s definitely the funniest so far. Kayahara’s devil face is just so hilarious, especially when she tries to smile. The second half was less funny, though at he end of the episode, when Megumi touched Kayahara’s warm hand and concludes she’s only recently deceased, was probably the funniest part. Also, Megumi is drawn far cuter than she normally is when she’s worrying about being cursed while in the bath. Kayahara’s cute too, that is, when she’s smiling. Properly. Hehe, this episode could easily be turned into a horror; just take out all the comedy, throw in a bit of blood, kill someone off maybe… Kayahara reminds me of the girls in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, where their faces change from sweet to evil in a second (only with Kayahara, ramen is the switch). Looking forward to the next episode! I think this series is becoming my favourite this season…

Impressions:
I didn’t find this episode as funny as the last. It was too repetitive, and I generally don’t like it when things are repeated to make it funny (Miki getting pounded multiple times). However, this doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the episode. The second half was easily predictable (how Toshiyuki was the dog and not the boy), so that downgraded the comedy slightly, though overall it was still a funny episode. I’m wondering if there will be any form of progressive plot in the show – so far there has been none. Megumi and Kankuro fighting Miki is a side story that can always be referred to for a few laughs – sand pointless laughter is just what this show is all about, though it wouldn’t hurt for a bit more development. The woman in the OP holding the staff has not yet made an appearance yet. I suspect she will appear soon as the series is only twelve episodes long. I believe the ending will be focused on the war between Miki and Megumi, as that seems to be the main focus of this ‘Invisible Poster Girl’ show. Toshiyuki may be of great importance too, as the entire ED is on him (although this could just be another random thing that was thrown in).

Impressions:
Another hilarious episode! I simply love the facial expressions and distortions the show uses. A comedy can never overuse exaggerative expressions (in my point of view), so I say the more the better! I also love how Miki counter’s Kankuro’s ‘train’ attack with a ‘bullet train’, then getting smashed by a ‘meteor’. LOL! I just hope this show can keep its quality, which shouldn’t be too hard as it only has 12 episodes. This reminds me of School Rumble, which did a good job of being funny until the end, but School Rumble 2nd Term has just lost all its humour (replaced by more plot). But hey, what’s that got to do with Muteki Kanban Musume?

Japanese Name: 無敵看?娘
Release: 07/2006
Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy
OP: “Wild Spice” by Masami Okui
ED: “Muteki na smile” by Naozumi Takahashi
Impressions:
The first episode is definitely a hit, and judging by the number of peers the torrent had (around 2000), I’d say it must be very popular. The show has the most extreme facial distortions I’ve ever seen, exaggerating the character’s emotions in almost every minute of the show, which is the basis for the fantastic comedy. The characters are pretty well done, with a range of slightly messed up personalities. Miki is the stubborn, reckless protagonist; Makiko is the motherly figure who’s all gentle and caring one moment, and dominating the next; Akihiko seems to be the average store owner; and Megumi is the princess type who you’d think would be the dominating person, but isn’t. Muteki Kanban Musume seems like one of those shows about nothing, so if want to watch something meaningful, this won’t be the show for you. Alternatively, if you just want to sit back and have a laugh (like me), I highly recommend this great new series. This is one of those show’s I’ll follow no matter what.
