Death Note: Episode 21

Rating: 9.2/10
Impressions:
Quite a good episode animation-wise, and covers a healthy 3 chapters of the manga. It’s really sweet now that the pacing has increased, and we get more Death Note goodness in 37 episodes. Like I have said countless times, this is necessary to include all of the manga in 37 episodes. Anyway, this is a rather entertaining Misa-centric episode, and yay, she’s finally useful for once, but the question is, how long will this last? It would be cool though, if Misa was the cool assassin-like type of character, and still acting as a third party…Sigh, yeah, I can’t let go of that Misa being smart notion I developed some months ago…

I really love the new OP and ED. Although I don’t really like the song much, I find that this type of heavy metal fused with the kickass new animations really suit the show. The contrasting colours and stylish use of this otherwise common animation style really brings out the highlights of the show. The only bad thing is that it makes Misa look a lot more important than she really is. If only Misa was smart and acted as a third party…but speaking of third parties, Mello and Near finally show up! (In the OP I mean). I was always expecting the show to include that arc, though still they really need to pick up the pace to fit everything in.

This episode brings us to the end of volume 6, and it’s a pretty fun episode if you ask me. Although I don’t really like this arc, this episode is surprisingly good. I don’t exactly like or dislike many of the characters, but I found Matsuda’s little escapade to become a more useful detective quite amusing and a nice change from the usual Light and L. What this arc is lacking is brain power and intelligence, though the plan devised by L to fake Matsuda’s death is pretty good. There’s still quite a long way to go until the end of this arc, and that signifies quite an important event, that’s probably easy to guess.

It’s pretty likely that this arc is really only here to have Light as a normal, innocent person rather than as Kira. It shows that power does corrupt (in this case), and is a fine example of the mistakes humans make. For example, in communism, a state exists in order to bring the nation to a communistic society, which is free of any one ruler. However, when this state gains power over the nation, they get greedy, corrupted, and refuse to relinquish their power. This though, brings us to the question to what will happen when or if Light regains the Death Note. Does he calculate all this when he gives it up? (People tend to think I haven’t read the manga…which I have).

Ahaha~ man the quality is SOOO low this episode. It hurts my eyes watching it. >_< Everyone has a few extremely crap close ups where there faces look completely wrong and amateurish. It’s such a shame since this episode highlights one of the most intense scenes in Death Note, where the audience is led to believe that Light is going to get killed. Quick question as well: do you think Light and L will survive until the end of the series, or at least near the end? I mean, the show IS about them and if they die, the show would die too…right? Well I know the answer so don’t go giving out spoilers now, ok?

Ahh, so Light’s time as Kira is finally over. This marks the second last episode of the series, and the show will wrap up next episode. It has been an enjoyable watch, but I guess now it’s time to move on to another series. Oh wait, what the hell am I talking about? xD There’s still like 20 episodes to go, so rest assured, Death Note will continue radiating awesomeness until the very end! This episode once again covers 2 chapters, but that should soon change as some of the upcoming events are more action packed. I’m especially looking for the big surprise next episode (trust me; you will be WTFing until the truth is revealed next episode, as I was)!

Another two-chapter episode, covering the agreement that Rem would kill L, and at the same time, the capture of Misa, who then surrenders ownership of her Death Note. And finally, Light says goodbye to Ryuk…WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Well nothing much, except A BIG twist in the story, so yeah. Anyway, quality = bad again. Well, it’s always pretty bad now, so I’ll just say it’s average from now on. Story wise, like I said it covers two chapters, 32 and 33. Also, chapter 34 is the last chapter of volume 4! Wow, we’re already a third of the way through the series! I’m still dreading the ending…DO NOT WANT to see it…
