With this entire episode devoted to Lelouch seeing through the shortcomings of his own plans as Zero, I would say it’s a welcome change to the usual action and thrill, littered with plot twists. While Lelouch’s character doesn’t really require much development anymore, this episode goes to show that he is indeed very human, and reminds us all of the reasons behind his plight—that is, Nunally. It’s no surprise that he has agreed to her offer to create the Special Administration Region of Japan, but we all have to think, will any good come from this? There’s still about two thirds of the series to go…

I daresay that Lelouch will probably end up blowing everything up (both metaphorically and literally), so I don’t have high hopes for this going too well. Ultimately, it will probably come down to Lelouch and his father, though for now, there are still far too many obstacles in the way; Nunally being one of them. Then there are the Knight of Rounds, namely Suzaku, as well as other possible Geass holders, way in the backdrop. I would really like to see C.C. play a larger role as one of Zero’s assets, as for now, his position doesn’t seem too firm. Of course, any further relationship development between C.C. and Lelouch would be more than welcomed.

However, the overall quality of the episode more than makes up for minor things likes that. I like how Karen has been considered on par with those belonging to the Knight of Rounds (I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called), which basically means Zero does actually look like he stands a chance. The there’s Rolo, who I’m sure will make an excellent asset to the frontline with his Geass powers. But still, these things alone makes it hard to believe that Zero is actually going to accomplish his mission.

Well this is certainly a fun episode. The writers integrated some solid story progression in a nicely executed school-focused episode—which, to my delight, remains in high quality. There’s also a large amount of fanservice, which isn’t bad as it’s quite rare that Geass contains fanservice. If they were to include it in each episode…that would probably become rather off-putting and annoying, but for a happy-go-lucky-like episode this time, it’s perfectly fine in my opinion.

I’m actually high pleased with this episode, as it really gets you into the mood of things with the suspense and excitement. I really like how Lelouch has basically completely converted Rolo to his side. There’s also Viletta, who still shows signs of weakness for Ougi (I think I got the names right…) This, with all the new characters and complications to the plot that are arising, I can foresee nothing but awesomeness to come.

Wow. I haven’t posted Macross F ep 3 yet, but I HAVE seen it, and I can definitely say Code Geass is in the lead again. This episode gives a nice change to the constant mecha fighting we’ve seen in the first season, as we follow Lelouch in his plans to thwart Rolo and the opposition forces. It was highly entertaining and interesting watching such a personalisation of Lelouch, as we see him interact with other people a lot more than usual. Thus, I certainly like the direction this new season is taking. Now we’ll have to see how Lelouch gets out of this situation, though I think it’s made obvious that the explosion will save the day…

The other topic of interest would be Rolo and his Geass, which basically freezes people’s perception with their senses, which is how he managed to ‘disappear’ and ‘reappear’ everywhere. This power seems rather overpowered though, as he is able to do this quite freely and more than just once. I would have to say it is definitely far superior to Lelouch’s Geass, but of course Lelouch has his chess skills. Bahaha. Another curious thing to note is the true intention of the Chinese federation. Being a power that rivals Britannia, there involvement will likely be a large part in the plot, so I’m curious as to how they’re going to be weaved into the heat of things.

With a tremendous start to the second season, this second episode follows up with fitting pace and brings back the same sense of Geass awesomeness that the first season has. Zero is back, and his asskicking abilities have returned with him. Already, new twists are occurring, such as Rolo and his hit-list, which unsurprisingly has Zero on it, as well as the Emperor having a Geass himself. Then there are the new group of likely antagonists, the whatchamacallit Knights that Suzaku has joined. Seriously, I still find him quite annoying, but I guess they need a primary antagonistic prick somewhere at any given time. xD

I forgot to mention anything about the OP and ED last time, IIRC, so I’ll say something now. The OP, if I may say so, is rather…bad. I simply can’t match it up with the epic feeling of Geass, for the tune and timbre of the voice is just…lacking. The ED is a lot better, though not that good anyway. EDs are usually more flexible anyway, due to the nature of closure of anime, which basically dictates that, anything works. It doesn’t really matter though, as it’s the things that happen between the OP and ED that count. Essentially, the anime itself. The next episode seems to be focus on Rolo, which should be interesting, as it’s going to be Zero vs Rolo.

What I want to say is, CODE GEASS ROCKS!, but I’m past the phase of blurting out random cries of emotion with no backing, so I’ll go back and rephrase everything. I think it was good that I didn’t really anticipate this sequel (which I have no idea why, seeing as I DID enjoy the first season), and the reason for that is, it made everything so much better. I had completely forgotten what it felt like watching Geass, and this first episode does more than enough to remind me. In other words, it’s awesome. I love the feel of change in anime, something which every sequel should cover, as it makes getting back into the show so much more interesting and exciting.

Anyway, enough of that. It’s quite obvious that there’s mean a lot of change made to the setting. In the beginning, Lelouch had lost his memory, the Black Knights had been reduced to mere single figures, Japan had been pushed into an even worse social position, and a few new characters have also magically appeared. Of course, these will (hopefully) be answered in the episodes to come, but leaving them blunt and unanswered really makes R2 seem like a whole new show. Everything has basically been turned back to episode 1, and now we get to see a different route that Zero will probably take.

Speaking of regressing back to episode 1, there are noticeable similarities between the start of Code Geass and Code Geass R2. My favourite is the demonstration of Lelouch’s chess playing skills, which ultimately indicates that he is a master tactician, regardless of whether he knows it himself or not. It really is a nice way of showing that, when it comes down to war, Lelouch is at the top. There’s also, of course, the memorable first meeting with CC and Lelouch gaining (or regaining) his Geass power. There are tons of new variables in play now as well, so I can’t wait to see how things work out. I think I can say CG is probably going to be one of the best shows this season.
