Honestly, I forgot about this show. But sorry anyways for being so behind. I find it rather annoying how simple things have gotten. If you take a look at all the complicated issues that the show once had, including Hirose’s blindness and the relationships between some of the characters, you’ll see that practically all of that has been settled. The problem is, these aspects of the show never produced anything other than badly executed quasi-drama and blatant harem comedy. I seriously can’t believe Yui and Kohinata’s relationship turned out so ‘friendly’. I hate to admit it, but this show has something wrong with just about everything it’s done…

I still say that Hinata is a bitch and Hirose is a sissy, who can’t say no to anything. This episode itself isn’t that bad, but the reunion of Hinata and Kohinata is just bullshit. I mean, come on, they’ve been mortal enemies for what, 10 years now? And suddenly they can relinquish all their emotions, expect the other party to accept them, and unite happily ever after? What the crap is that? Furthermore, I don’t find any of this suspenseful or dramatic at all….(Oh and it seems Otoha was Hinata’s sister or something…)

I sure as hell never want to see that episode again…a girl’s head does NOT go on a guy’s body. In any case, the class beach episode which all harems have is here, and it doesn’t do very well for the overall drama level of the show. Which, I might mention, is approximately zero right now. I now expect nothing more than an Amaenaideyo level of harem now, as H2O is failing in every other respect. Maybe I’ll get more out of this show if I severely lower all my expectations…

I am definitely never watching H2O after watching True Tears ever again. Because H2O fails…..fails, and continues to fail. I know I would be able to put up with it more easily if I watch it first, but after seeing how good True Tears is, anything that’s just a little worse seems like uberfail to me. I also watched Clannad after H2O, but I’ll get into that when I post episode 14. I guess the same issues apply in this episode—not so good animation, not so good execution, a progressively more harem-like setting and a diminishing seriousness in the show’s overall tone. Which is practically everything the show had going for it in the beginning.

Hirose’s blindness became a dud point ages ago; and that was one of the show’s charm points. But even so, he’s still quite a coward who can’t even say anything when Kohinata is called a cockroach. Not only that, but I really hate Hinata—regardless of whether she really likes Hirose or not, everything she’s doing is quite evil in my opinion. I’m not sure what to make of the back story that’s explained (everyone burning Kohinata’s house down, and possibly her parents as well), mainly because it seems to me like Kohinata never did anything wrong…but I’m sure that’s not the case.

Aside from everything though, I’m ashamed to say that I JUST FREAKING realised that Hamaji is a freaking trap (trap like Watarase Jun xD). But now that I know, his behaviour makes much more sense now. But the fact that there’s a trap in the show makes this show seem more like some poorly handled side-project of a visual novel conversion, rather than a worth-the-watch, decent anime series. Oh and some last complaints: the show tries to build suspense by adding in all these little love-hate things (such as Hinata stealing a kiss from Hirose), but frankly, it all just increases the level of ‘harem-ness’ of the show, which is definitely NOT a good thing…*sigh*.

Sorry if I seem a bit blunt but, WOW that was shit. Well, the first half of the episode is, due to some very low animation quality and the display of some extremely annoying harem antiques. The second half of the episode does a lot better, with a lot of attention placed back on Kohinata and the entire feud happening between her and the rest of the town…though considering how one-sided it is, it’s not really a feud at all…Anyway though, I think I’m going to stick with the show, since it seems like a fun show to bash if it starts turning shit, or an interesting show to contemplate about if it does well. =)

Before I go any further, I have to say, WTF happened with Hirose’s vision? Ok, I admit I knew he was going to get his sight back, but I expected it to occur either later in the series, or happen more slowly. But somehow, it just happens, and for some goddamn reason, everyone seems fine with it!! I guess it’s relatively safe to say that Otoha is no normal person, but this has taken the seriousness of his disability and thrown it off the stage completely. The only thing the show has going now is the issue with Kohinata, but it’s made to seem so childish and stupid that I have no idea what to think anymore.

The one thing I do actually like is Kohinata’s character. She’s fantastically interesting, and the way she warms up to Hirose makes me feel all giddy inside. Hirose, on the other hand, isn’t doing enough to stand up for her in my opinion. But the blame should go on Yui and her retarded goons, who I had hoped would get a slap/punch in the face from Hirose. They’re even labelled as A and B, and drawn like idiots—there’s no way anyone would take them seriously. Even Hinata pisses me off when she mentions ’saving’ Hirose from the ‘oni’. I have no idea what kind of past these people had, but it doesn’t change my fondess for Kohinata, and knowing won’t either.

Impressions:

H2O is, as I’m sure most are aware of, a harem with a blind male lead. If you have yet to see it, I recommend you do so, as it’s quite interesting, and not your average harem. People are saying H2O feels like Air (though I personally don’t really think so, as the premises are completely different, but there are indeed certain elements that makes the two alike), which should point out the drama and mystery aspects quite clearly. But it’s certainly too early to tell right now, and I’m still deciding whether to blog the show or not. As of now, the odds are favourable, but there are still some new shows I have yet to seen.

To me, H2O seems really out of place. It’s a mix between classic harem and drama (something like a crossover of Shuffle and Air), which doesn’t really result in anything special. I was certainly impressed at the bluntness of the show after seeing Kohinata getting pummelled by two guys, but then I end up seeing a generic, tsundere-like character behind it all. The two just don’t work together. But I’m going to overlook that for now, since Kohinata is the most interesting person so far. I guess the question that needs answering most regarding her is, why is she hated? And I really can’t imagine why, especially as how her ‘bully’ is such an inappropriate character.

Hirose himself is quite a mystery as well. Firstly, all signs point to him being able to see again, and I’m not sure how real the final scene is, where he seems to be able to see completely as he stands beside Kohinata. There’s also that part where Otoha seemingly makes him see for a brief moment. But aside from that, there’s also Hinata’s family who know who Hirose is, and refer to him with the sama honorific suffix (while Otoha calls him the chosen one). This mystery is the charm point of the show for me, and shows that it’s not just some other generic harem with badly designed/scripted characters.
