Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 5

Rating: 9.7/10 (you can tell I really love this show!)
Impressions and Short Summary:
So, Tatsuma and Kyouichi are gay now? Apparently, Kyouichi says this to Tatsuma as a greeting one morning: ‘Yo, genkinee na, kareshi?’ which I think means ‘Hey, ya ain’t feelin’ well huh, boyfriend?’ Yeah…pretty surprising lol, though there’s probably a load more of uses for kareshi than boyfriend…I think. Anyway, this episode continues from the same time period as the past 3 episodes. It should be expected for it to stay this way until at least when everyone gets their special powers. So far, I believe only Aoi has revealed hers. And in other news, the quality is not as high as the first episode, with a few not so well drawn faces, though nothing to complain about.

Ah, so the emo guitarist isn’t the guy who attacks Kyouichi and the others last episode. He ends up being the oni, and is actually a past close friend to the guy who attacks out heroes from last episode. This whole episode simply focuses on the confrontation between the two close friends, with Tatsuma and company on the sidelines, getting involved only somewhat. And I think Kyouichi’s mended his friendship with Aoi…aww how sweet! Daigo doesn’t seem to be irritated by Tatsuma’s presence, as he does look rather angry some time ago when he picks a fight with him. And so with this, it seems like the common shounen (genre) team has been formed!

Impressions:
So this episode goes from where the last leaves off, and its completely about Aoi this time (a BIG plus for me!) Ok, it’s generic, big deal. I can think of this show as the original shounen, even though obviously it is not. But the quality and action just make everything awesome regardless! Anyway, this episode is about Aoi and how all the other guys with super powers tell her she is useless, has no offensive ability and should not participate in battle, yadayadayadah! And of course, when the chance arrives and everyone gets pretty beaten up by some crow controlling, lightning rod demon guy, Aoi steps up to the stage and uses her inredible Inoue-like defensive abilities to save the day!

OMG wow, the quality has not dropped at all! The show still looks like gold and is as entertaining as ever. There isn’t much action, but this is made up by a nice story. You can think of this as a sack of clichés, but it achieves two things which most other similar shows fail: quality, and not making the main character a justice freak. The quality is unquestionably very high, higher than most other shounen/seinen shows with lots of action. It’s like an action flick, as it has been compared to quite a few times before. The fluidity of the movements, and the lack of still shots with gay background effects is a definite plus. It’s as good as Samurai Champloo fighting!

Oh fuck this is goddamn godly in terms of action, quality and overall awesomeness. It looks like I’ll have ANOTHER anime to blog now, unless the next episode turns out completely crap. I also need subs to blog this, and it looks like Shinsen and Static Subs might be doing it. Also, Kanon 16 will be up in a few hours. Mahora also released for episodes of Negima!? so I need to catch up on that tomorrow orz. Anyway, back to Tokyo Majin. I can assure you, if you are after quality, you will be amazed. The artists sure know how to draw a good zombie, and there is quite a bit of gory limbs-being-sliced, organs-spilling-everywhere and lots of kickass action scenes. Story-wise, it’s er…well, I didn’t really understand anything, so I’ll leave it for now. It seems pretty complicated from the looks of things, but then again, it could be pretty straightforward. The thing that really worries me now is the next episode, which I hope will not be crap after this amazing first episode, which tends to happen a lot.
