It’s incredible how ridiculous this anime is getting each week with the way the female characters behave towards Saito. Everyone seems to be getting much more intimate and desperate, and it seems that everything that happens is really just a big excuse for some Henrietta x Saito bonding (and fanservice). Of course, I can’t say it isn’t entertaining. So Saito finally has a harem, consisting solidly of Henrietta, Siesta and Louise (Kirche hasn’t been around much…) The next episode seems to involved Siesta in seifuku, which should be a treat, though since Henrietta has seemingly become an option for Saito, I have to say that I’ll be rooting for her from now on.

It was nice seeing Saito and Louise return to a place introduced in the first season, though with the premise of the story being completely different, the parallels don’t quite match up. And speaking of a parallel of a different kind, the corresponding kisses involving Saito x Henrietta and Louise x Anies are quite ingenious. Those are probably the funniest moments of the episode, and it allows for an excellent wrap up in the end with Louise and Saito getting all nervous with their memories of their respective doings. Ahh, it’s nice how Zero no Tsukaima’s humour is so wacky and fun…

I’m glad Louise’s two sisters return as well, as I was afraid they would end up being a one-off thing, destined to be soon forgotten. Another thing that stuck though, is Siesta, who’s aggressiveness in her plight to win Saito’s heart has risen even higher. She now even tries to make herself look like the victim when their little time together is interrupted by Louise. Although I can’t say I approve of such behaviour, it is very entertaining to see Siesta acting like a common harem girl.

As soon as I saw Saito confess to Louise, I immediately convinced myself that Louise simply dreams everything and it would all revert back to normal by the end of the episode…fortunately, it doesn’t (although Louise does remain angry with Saito). This episode is just so damn random and out of place, that it’s awesome. =D I never though the relationship between Saito and Louise would skyrocket in a single episode, nor did I think Siesta would suddenly become this aggressive and determined. Judging by her mindset at the end of the episode, I guess it can be assumed that there will be some love conflicts in the future.

As I said earlier, everything about this episode is out of place. The following things are either unbelievable, stupid or very random: Louise’s nee-sama coming to grab her, Saito AND Siesta; Siesta sneaking into Saito’s bed in WAIT FOR HER PREY; Louise doing the SAME THING that Siesta does; the two kissing; Saito’s confession; the things he does after confessing; and more collectively, the entire episode. Well, I can’t say these are bad things, as they make the episode immensely entertaining. I never thought something like this would happen after some seriousness of war in the previous episodes. I wonder what’s in store for us in the next episode…

I wonder to what extent this episode’s occurrences will have on the interactions between Louise, Saito and Siesta in the episodes to come. Will this be treated as some serious turning point in the relational aspect of the show, or will it be forgotten due to Louise’s discovery of Saito spending the night with her sister? I sure hope for the former, since even though this episode happens far too quickly and unexpectedly, it does progress a lot. Louise and Saito definitely need to be acting more like a couple now, or we’ll probably have to wait for another season of Zero no Tsukaima, if there’ll be one.

I expected this to have no story progression at all, due to the preview from the last episode, which was a naïve assumption considering the number of episodes in this season (12). There’s absolutely no time to waste, and with my expectations beforehand, this episode turned out to be a rather good surprise. I liked the little Saito vs Julio in order to defend Louise thing as a standalone, though with the sudden war movement, this episode turns out to be entertaining and eventful. Already, the guys at the academy have been recruited, along with the girls in training. Saito, Louise, and others have already been placed in a new taskforce. Things are running pretty quickly…

For some reason, the initial actions Anies took to ‘take over’ the score really pissed me off. I hated her for that in the beginning, but then it sort of wore off after she begins training with Saito. The way she points her sword at the teacher like that, along with commenting on how she hate fire mages, which is really bad stereotyping—kinda like racism, is just sickening. She even handles Montmorency like shit, which appalled me. Like I said though, my resentment for her faded quickly, though the brief flashback which suggests some kind of tragedy involving fire mages did not make me change my mind about her at all.

I mentioned how things are progressing pretty quickly before, and one of the reasons is Henrietta’s quick recovery. Although it could’ve been a long time in the timeline of the anime, from the viewers’ point of view, it would seem to be an instant comeback. Aside from that though, the way Saito speaks to Louise in the way he does now also influences my thinking slightly, pushing me into thinking everything’s been happening too quickly. I can also attribute this feeling to the new characters. Speaking of them, none of them have my liking at all yet (I spoke about Anies already, though I don’t like Julio either). However, next week should be grand due to Louise’s sisters…

I think this episode is the best I’ve seen so far including the first season. Talk about fast pacing, Wales comes back and dies again all in this one episode. There’s plenty of action as well as a fairly emotional ending. The animators did not hesitate to show the intimacy between Henrietta and Wales by making them make out nicely when they see each other again. Ahh, poor Saito. I was a bit surprised when Henrietta doesn’t really change her mindset even after witnessing Wales heal himself, but this all emphasises her love for Wales, which in turn increases the tragedy that befalls upon her. I feel quite sorry for Henrietta after watching this.

I think it’s pretty evident that Saito and Louise are closer now, though of course they still get into their usual quarrels, where Louise usually ends up whipping or bashing Saito somehow. I’m impressed at how much stronger the two have become now as well. Saito has always been pretty powerful, but it really shows this episode, especially with his confidence and distaste when he realises he’s not strong enough to stop Wales and Henrietta. Louise can actually do something now, showing off her void magic by cancelling out Wales’s and Henrietta’s magic (and somehow only Wales is hurt). I wonder if she has any offensive skills though…

Next episode introduces another new character, which further adds to my being impressed with the show. I’m finding this second season to be far better than the first, which I thought was good, but not nearly as good as everyone made it out to be. Things are just going so quickly (even though this episode doesn’t really lead to anything, except it probably sets the characters up for something bigger) and new characters are being thrown in from everywhere. Things seem to have gone back to normal for now, from the looks of the preview, and this time Saito’s found himself a rival—can he defeat him without Derflingher?

Impressions:

Zero no Tsukaima: Futatski no Kishi (Zero’s Familiar: Knight of the Two Moons), continues straight off from where the last season finished. Louise is still a tsundere who treats Saito like an animal, while Saito is also still his usual perverse self. In fact, these two aspects seem to have been inhanced, since Saito now seems to have perverted thoughts about any girl he sees except for Louise, and because of this, Louise gets ever more frustrated and jealous. This is all emphasised by the glasses which flash whenever Saito is thinking something dirty, as well as Louise’s whip/wand which can now cause a lot of blood loss and a deformed face xD.

However, despite all this, their relationship does seem to have improved quite a lot. Louise now lets Saito sleep with her in her bed, and even cries in Saito’s embrace when he gets captured for false accusations as an assassin. And is it just me or is Henrietta cuter now too? I can’t remember which girl I rooted for in the last season, but now it’s definitely Henrietta. Even so, a relationship between her and Saito is probably impossible, since everything is leading to a Saito and Louise pairing (well duh). Speaking of couples…it seems that the Prince of Wales is still alive, and he kidnaps the princess in the first episode? Now this is nice pacing!

The OP certainly emphasises the relationship between Louise and Saito a lot (they actually manage to kiss this time). A lot of time is spent on portraying in an ‘opposites attract’ manner, which is similar to something like the first Bleach OP. The ED isn’t that great, though as the last ED was horrible in my opinion, I have no complaints for this new one. All in all, while Zero no Tsukaima isn’t one of my favourites, it’s still an enjoyable show, something which I will definitely blog (since I already did the first season). Hmm, I wonder if there will be a third season, since it’s unlikely this season will cover the remaining story from the novel…right?
