Gigantic Formula: Episode 13

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

Hmm, doesn’t look like Lunar is subbing this series very timely, which is quite a worry as I’ve grown pretty fond of this anime. I never had a problem with the face designs, so it’s really just been a matter of the character constructions and plot developments that have gradually built up my interest in it. It’s a shame that Lunar’s taking so long. I hope they haven’t dropped the show. As for the actual episode, a few new questions arise—both concerning Suwa. What exactly is happening to Suwa, and why does Mana persist in mentioning sacrificing him. Ahh, things are pretty confusing at the moment, though at least the plot isn’t hectic.

Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 25

Rating: 7.9/10

Impressions:

Ah, the conclusion to one of the better mini-arcs of the manga—it’s always sweet (and extremely funny) to watch the bonds (and misunderstandings) between Nagi and Hayate strengthen. The animation quality is again rather high, and the purple lighting used for the underground scenes are particularly effective. I have to wonder how long this will last though. Aside from the quality, I’m also hoping for some extended arcs as well—not serious ones which build on plot or anything; just something like this episode and the last one. Oh, random note: being the Neon Genesis Evangelion fan that I am, the cross-shaped explosion is priceless. xD

Lucky Star: Episode 21

Rating: 8.5/10

Impressions:

Another good episode, with nice comedy shorts (which are becoming increasingly easier to identify with), though now I’m beginning to want to see a sustained gag that takes up the entire episode. That would make for a nice conclusion, in my opinion. Kagami’s *love letter* gag is awesome, as it portrays her in such a serious and love-struck manner, only to be heart-broken (not really) when she realises that, not only is her *admirer* ugly, he’s also not interested. I love her before and after expressions—especially the contrast between them. It would be nice though, if Lucky Star actually pairs one of the characters up with a guy, even if only for a short while.

Nagasarete Airantou: Episode 23

Rating: 7.6/10

Impressions:

The way this episode finishes—it makes me think that there’s a chance that Ikuto will return home at the end of the series. Or at least, he’ll probably get a choice, and decide on staying. The important thing that needs work on now, is his reason(s) for staying. I guess it’s pretty straightforward when it comes to the new bonds he has, but close interaction between him and the other characters are far from sufficient. It’s not like this show has a morning timeslot, so there’s no reason to not increase the intimacy between Ikuto and Suzu at least. I guess a part of why I like this episode goes to the focus on Ikuto-Suzu relations.

Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 24

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

Heh, Hayate no Gotoku goes back to volume 3 and finally animates one of the more important parts of the manga—important because it solidifies the misunderstanding between Hayate and Nagi, which of course is great in terms of comedy. =D It’s also one of my favourite parts of the manga. I’m looking forward to seeing the mecha fight next episode, which is (and everything involved with it) hilariously ridiculous. Is it just me, or has the quality gone up a bit? I’m noticing Nagi gets drawn far better than I usually expect, especially as she has a few extra emotional faces, this time round.

Darker than BLACK: Episode 25 (END)

Rating: 9/10

Overall Series Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

It’s 2:30AM and I’m really tired, so please excuse me if I say anything retarded. Well, Darker than Black has ended, and thankfully, the ending doesn’t screw up the masterpiece that is the rest of the show. I wouldn’t consider it a favourite of mine, since I am, by heart, a big explosions and overpowered protagonist fan. I just swing that way. xD However, I’m not dense enough to fail to see the magnificence of the series that DtB is. I had to adjust to the slower-than-shounen pacing, but once I did, I learned to appreciate the thought-provoking abilities and storytelling of the show, as well as the excellent cast.

Nagasarete Airantou: Episode 22

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

Finally, an episode with some major character development. It really is heart-warming to see Ikuto and Suzu together. Ikuto might still want to return home, but I’d say he’s already feeling an obligation to stay with Suzu, who has no one else to call family. In the last few episodes, I doubt there will be much more development between the two. It’s not like Ikuto’s going to end up with anyone, and when it comes to Suzu, being family is probably the best option. Hopefully there won’t be a sequel, since all that’ll happen would be more random events that don’t achieve anything. The show should finish on a good note, and not try to come back for more.

Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 23

Rating: 7/10

Impressions:

Ah, another Yukiji episode! I find those that involve her are usually fun and lively, as that’s exactly what her personality is. However, this episode is slightly more random than funny, though there are some scenes that I just can’t get over. Her impersonation of Light from Death Note is certain scenes are comedy gold, while Izumi’s continuing habit of calling Hayate ‘Hayata’ is equally as funny. There’s also an unusual abundance of chibi scenes in this episode, which I find rather contradicting with the outrageousness of the show. Chibi and Hayate-type random does not work well for me.
