Busou Renkin: Episodes 15 & 16

Rating: 8.4/10 & 9/10

Impressions:

Oh shit wow, this show is getting much better now. Compared to the current D.Gray-man, and I stress the word ‘current’, Busou Renkin wins by a mile. But of course D.Gray-man will get much better later on…but that’s not relevant to this anyway. But man, this episode is just filled with surprises and plot twists; I’m loving it. It seems like a lot of shows from the last season are getting good as they all pass the halfway mark. The only hurdle left to leap is the ending, the grand finale! Now’s the time for Busou Renkin to set up the stage for the final few episodes, which I cannot wait for now. And if they do that well, this will be another show I recommend to my friends!

Going on from the surprises I mentioned, episode 15 and 16 has a mix of drama, emotion and beach-time! It’s really all over the place, and the time spent on the beach is hilarious. I’m loving Mahiro more and more as her personality reveals itself repeatedly. Plus, the various getups Kazuki and company get up to are priceless, such as surfing on each other’s heads! Oh and who can forget Captain Bravo’s arousing blow kiss that got all the girls blushing! And immediately after that, Kazuki takes his chances, and who does he do it to? Of course Tokiko, but obviously it doesn’t work and he gets a quick beating from her. xD

But the big surprise is how Captain Bravo ‘kills’ Kazuki. But being a shounen series, there is absolutely no chance of Kazuki actually being dead, or if he is, there is no way of him staying that way. Although the chances of this are extremely thin, I’m thinking that Bravo purposely does not kill Kazuki to give him a chance to return. Reasons for me thinking this is how he questions Kazuki beforehand, and I’m sure the answer he gets is a good one. But, reasons that he really did give it his all to kill Kazuki; his short monologue about defeating Victor, and also the resolution he shows, (which includes when he attacks Tokiko for trying to save Kazuki).

And yes, I have caught up with Busou Renkin! I know there is still episode 17, but I need to wait until episode 18 is subbed before doing my next post. It seems like the subs are being released more punctually, and episode 17 was done before the raws for 18 were released. Hopefully I can keep up with this show as well. It’s gotten a lot better since a few months ago, which is all the more reason for me to watch and blog this on time. Oh and a last comment, I believe Chouno will be the final enemy. I think he will help Kazuki defeat the true bad guys so he they can have a rival battle in the end, after the main antagonists die. I also think Chouno has a black Kakugane…

Heehee, I had a feeling you’ll start to like BR more xD I think I’m the only one who totally freaked at Bravo for killing Kazuki. I will not forgive him that easily, even after episode 17. Screw him xD

I’m glad that BR is also being subbed more on time now, too ^^ And you may be right about Chouno. I dunno about him having the second Black Kakugane, but he’s definitely not going anywhere xD

Kazuki been killed 4 times so far, first by the snake homunculus, then by the frog homunculus, then by Victor and now by Captain Bravo.

What I like about this show is that is consistence, there is no shift (like moving from comedy to drama) and no dead moments (Shana was guilty of that).

Yes, but all those times were different xDD It wasn’t due to someone who was SUPPOSED to be his FRIEND!

But you still liked Shana, ne?

Yes, it was a enjoyable ride … I look forward to a second season.

Busou Renkin however dont seen to have much of dead moments, there is always action and comedy and the episodes seem to be well planned.

just to confirm something with all of you… against the frog homunculus, kazuki did not die… he was injured rather badly and was let’s say… near death…

danny: kazuki can die, he’s near immortal but is not an immortal.., the kakugane is just like another heart for him , and if it’s destroyed, irregardless whether he’s in black form or not… he will die.. also in human form if the kakugane is held too long away from his body, he will die, i think it was stated in the earlier episodes(not sure about dark kazuki though)

Shana for me is like a rollercoster ride, it starts slow and starts to build up to a peek and goes back to slow again, its have a build up to the “boss” fight and returns to normal over the course of the series.

My issue with “normal” in Shana is that it usually amounts to a great deal of nothing, they are moving the plot along but its they are not good episodes for the viewer to watch independent from the rest.

Take the OVA, it was fun to watch and works as a independent episode even when its place right after the end of the “Twincest”, usually normal Shana is not like that because they go over drama instead of comedy … issue is drama does not work well in self contained episodes as comedy does.

jinyamoto: u misunderstood me, when i said kazuki ‘couldn’t die’, i meant he ‘wont’ die because he is the main character of a shounen anime. what shounen has their main charater die in the middle of the anime? and when i say ‘die’, it doesnt include when someone dies and comes back as a spirit. for example, DBZ, characters die yet they can still participate in the show. Bleach is another example, where hollows/shinigami are actually all ‘dead’.

drakon: shana is based on novels as im sure u know, and definitely did not reach the real climax of the show, which is probably why it felt that way, though personally i didnt feel that when i watched it at all.
