Busou Renkin: Episode 4

Impressions:

This anime is shaping up to be one of my more favoured ones. The jokes are fresh and I hope they stay that way. The anime is still quite early in its story, but unlike a lot of other manga-shounen converts, it is limited to 26 episodes. I believe the series can stay strong until then. Currently, there seems to be quite a few good shounen series out there. The best one so far would have to be D.Gray-man, as both Naruto and Bleach are in fillers and most likely suck compared to D.Gray-man. I have to say Busou Renkin has no chance of topping something like Bleach in its prime, and right now the fillers are better than this show. However, if you like shounen you should at least give this anime a try. The action is getting better and the characters are being developed quite nicely. It’s good how everyone is involved in some way, and hopefully their significance to the story will increase over time. I understand that the manga wasn’t very popular, so it’s no wonder why the anime adaptation isn’t either.

I must say I feel sorry for the butterfly dude. He definitely has reasons behind his actions, and he is 100% correct when he says people value their own lives above others. It’s human instinct. It just depends on how far you are willing to take your desires. I obviously can’t imagine a life where I just continue to live to die, in pain and misery every day. It would be pretty tragic if he died being the enemy when all he was doing was trying to survive: following his instincts. I hope he is somehow saved or converted to being a good guy. But then again, if he’s to last all 26 episodes being the main antagonist, he better become a homunculus, since he’s far too weak right now. I’m also beginning to think that Kazuki’s sister is able to use kakugane or at least be compatible with it. There was a scene when she mysteriously got a chest pain…hmm, interesting. I really hope she does become an alchemical warrior and show Kazuki off. Maybe she’ll get into trouble and surprise Kazuki, who is trying to rescue her, by releasing her weapon and owning the homunculus that’s trying to eat her! Anyway, it’s good to see that this series is at least getting a few bloggers doing episode-by-episode reviews.

Plot Outline:

- Kazuki wakes up in Tokiko’s hotel and fears the worst, for he’s in his underwear (Tokiko must’ve stripped him!)
- He asks Tokiko about herself and she reveals that she doesn’t go to school, the uniform she wears is from the last school she raided, and she’s older than Kazuki
- The two then leave to search for the butterfly guy
- They determine that he should be in the dormitories, so the two split up to search
- Kazuki eventually finds him first
- Tokiko also comes, but the guy’s homunculus guard arrives to protect him
- In the process, it is also revealed that the butterfly guy wants to become a homunculus, and the embryo attached to Tokiko was just an experiment

- The guy explains that he contracted an incurable illness and is destined to die young
- Therefore, he wishes to become a human-type homunculus to retain his humanity and become a superhuman
- In the midst of everything, Kazuki’s sister gets a mysterious pain in her chest
- After Kazuki and Tokiko manage to free themselves from the homunculus, who is taking them to as far as possible away from civilisation and its master
- Kazuki uses his sash’s energy to break their fall and save Tokiko as well as himself
- Tokiko once again comments on how Kazuki is slowly getting more efficient and wielding his weapon
- The two start fighting the homunculus, but they find out that it’s on a completely new level compared to the other homunculus that they’ve fought before
- The episode ends with Tokiko and Kazuki charging at the homunculus

Tokiko should change her outfit. Since she is not a student there’s no need for her to wear the uniform. She looks much nicer with casual wear.
