Blog Update - Spoiler Tags Fixed

Just a little update on the blog.

1. I have fixed the spoiler tags to allow anyone to use them in the comments section. I had to modify the kses.php file since I don’t know how to use the my-hacks.php thing. Anyway, if you’d like to know how to do it, using you FTP browser, navigate to the ‘wp-includes’ folder, where you’ll find the kses.php. Download that file and open it in whatever text editor you use. Find the section that may look something like this:

'code' => array (),
// ‘del’ => array(’datetime’ => array()),
// ‘dd’ => array(),
// ‘dl’ => array(),
// ‘dt’ => array(),

Just below that, add another line like this, assuming you’re using the same spoiler plugin as me, and it should work fine. Oh and by the way, the way you use the spoiler tags can be found here =)

'spoiler' => array (),

2. After that, I thought I should say what’s happening with this blog. There’s been a lot of talk about how new bloggers make the ‘mistake’ of doing per-episode summaries. Well, I highly disagree with the statement that this is a ‘mistake’. I like reading per-episode summaries and I know other people do as well. This has also been addressed in one of the recent AnimeNano podcasts as well. I also suck at writing editorials, and I believe my knowledge on anime and Japanese culture is far to limited to write anything about it, so if you like to call it ‘the easy way out’ or whatever, then so be it.

Also, if you read my blog, you would most likely have noticed I put the majority of my effort into writing impressions on the episodes, instead of summaries. I find them a waste of time, and usually other people have written summaries before me. What people can’t accomplish before me is to illustrate my thoughts on the matter, so I will be sticking with that. If I am busy, I will usually write short impressions, no summary and reduced screenshots. If I am in no hurry, or if I really like the episode, I will write a full entry, with at least 30 screenshots, a decent length impressions and a short plot outline.

    Are you using Simple Spoiler? That’s what I’m using on my blog, and for some reason, it only works when I use the spoiler tags (and not my readers). I don’t know if you were having the same problem as me, but I’ll check out your solution, thanks!

    As for writing episode summaries, I figure you should do what you like. My blog is mostly made up of episode summaries as well, so I say, Episode summary bloggers unite!

    Yes I’m pretty sure we’re using the same plugin. One way you can try on your own blog is to log out and try to use the spoiler tags.

    Whoo hoo! It works! Thanks a bunch! In gratitude, I’ve included your site in my blog roll. ^_^

    I’m against episode summaries too, but I do approve of episode impressions. Summaries are pointless since they can just watch the darn episode while impressions are something that varies from person to person. Leaving that aside though…

    Overall, I would say let all those new blogs be if they do a solid job on both content and presentation (like this blog.) At least they’re better than those lazy ass morons who just slap on an image and barely write anything. Episode-by-episode entries are good ways for new bloggers to start off until they can find a particular style they want to blog in or something since not everyone can come up with interesting editorials even if they wanted to write one. And next time someone disses you for having too many episode entries, tell that faggot to write an episode entry, and then talk. Trust me, half of those guys can’t sit long enough for that. And out of that half, ninety-percent lost function of their right brain or something. At least put a border on the images.

    And on another note, blogging episodes isn’t a task at all if it’s a series you’re really enjoying.

    Um… maybe i missed it somewhere… but did you actually mention HOW we’re supposed to use the spoiler tag?

    Anyway, everybody should just do what they like. You wouldn’t be bothered by what other people said unless all you are going for are more viewers.

    I have a friend who JUST reads summaries. She doesn’t even WATCH the anime. The reason is beyond me.

    I think if you blog enough, you’ll find a natural balance. What you like best.

    p.s. I don’t see myself on your blogroll either! =X

    Ah thanks! I’ve been thinking about the problem of spoilers for a couple of days, so this’ll be useful.

    As for the episode summary business, I don’t really see what the problem is. Unless a person suffers from some compulsion to read every post of every blog out there it’s simply solved by not reading them. People are too concerned about what others are doing instead of minding their own house. Personally I’d like to avoid writing them, but I don’t think I’d have enough material to sustain my blog without them at the moment, so I try to add as much interesting or humorous commentary as I can which, as you noted, is unique to one’s own blog.

    And frankly, a lot of the editorials out there really aren’t that interesting.
