Bleach: Ranking the Captains
EDIT: I have posted this before a few months ago and the following words are from then. I just thought that this post didn’t get enough attention bac then so I have reposted it. Also, by now I am up to date with the manga and I know some change I have to make.
I’ve always thought about how the Captains match each other, but only now have I really tried to list them in order of strength. There aren’t nearly enough fights to determine who is stronger between some of them, and it is also possible that each has a weakness that another captain can exploit. Think about Janken; it goes in a triangle. There is no ’strongest’ form, so maybe this is the case with some of the Captains. For this list, I have included Yoruichi and Urahara as they are former Captains, as well as Kariya and Ichigo, as they are definitely at Captain levels. Remember that the list below are just guesses and could be way off. If you have a different order, please post it as I am very curious to know what people think about this. The list goes from strongest to weakest - descending order.
Important Notes:
- When I ranked Ichigo, I ranked him according to his Bankai’s power. However, he can also turn half-Hollow at times, which can be combined with his Bankai. This makes him much stronger, and would be higher up the list if I ranked him according to that. In this form, he was easily able to get the better of Byakuya, even though he was wounded and near death.
- Kariya is very strong as we’ve seen (episode 91), but what I’m wondering about is his Doll (I think he has one). How strong would he be if he uses his Doll to attack? Also, now that he is in Soul Society, he has just become much stronger. I ranked him according to his display of power in episode 91.
- Yamamoto, Aizen, Shunsui and Juushiro were ranked according to their Shikai’s power, as they haven’t revealled their Bankais yet.
- Zaraki is at Captain level without a Shikai or Bankai. With a Shikai, he would be much stronger. With a Bankai, I’d say he’d be as strong as Shusui and Juushiro, though those two haven’t used their Bankai either.
- I’m not sure if Soi-Fon and Yoruichi have a Bankai or not. They both have their ‘Flash Release’ technique, which is quite strong. Yoruichi doesn’t even seem to have a Zanpakuto. Would Flash Release be able to be used in conjunction with Bankai? If so and they did use this, I’m sure they would be much stronger.
- If you are up to date with the manga, you’d definitely be more informed than I am about the strengths of the captains.
Yamamoto Genryuusai
1st Squad Captain
Reason: He’s the leader of all the captains and his aura was very impressive when he fought Shunsui and Juushiro.
Aizen Sousuke
5th Dquad Captain
Reason: He is the main antagonist and he was able to stop Ichigo in his Bankai form unarmed.
Kyouraku Shunsui
8th Squad Captain
Reason: One of the first students under Yamamoto and was able to stand up against him when they fought.
Ukitake Juushiro
13th Squad Captain
Reason: Same as Shunsui, though he is always sick so maybe he’s slightly weaker.
Kuchiki Byakuya
6th Squad Captain
Reason: Fought against Ichigo. Had he fought with 100% of his power against Ichigo from the beginning and not suffered injuries from Hollow-Ichigo, he would have won.
Jin Kariya
Bounto Leader
Reason: Main antagonist of the Bounto filler arc, can match Ichigo in his Bankai form.
Kurosaki Ichigo
15-year-old subsitute Shinigami
Reason: Main protagonist and simply very strong. He is extremely fast in his Bankai form.
Zaraki Kenpachi
11th Squad Captain
Reason: Can beat other captains. Has very high Reiatsu.
Hitsugaya Toushiro
10th Squad Captain
Reason: He was able to gain the upperhand against Ichimaru when they fought.
Ichimaru Gin
3rd Squad Captain
Reason: Just guessing. Seems pretty strong.
Komamura Sajin
7th Squad Captain
Reason: Seemed pretty confident when he was about to fight Zaraki.
Tousen Kaname
9th Squad Captain
Reason: Apart from Zaraki, he would be able to defeat many captains with his Bankai’s ability.
Urahara Kisuke
Ex-12th Squad Captain
Reason: Just seems strong.
Shihouin Yoruichi
Ex-2nd Squad Captain
Reason: Seems strong. She’s also very fast as well.
Soi-Fon
2nd Squad Captain
Reason: Same as Yoruichi. She was defeated by her in the end though. Her Shikai’s ability is extremely deadly.
Kurotsuchi Mayuri
12th Squad Captain
Reason: Doesn’t seem that strong, though his Bankai’s ability is extremely deadly. Ishida was able to defeat him because he fought from long range.
Unohana Retsu
4th Squad Captain
Reason: Seems to be more of a healer than fighter.

Ok, Urahara Kisuke should be higher on the list. He took on one of Aizen’s hollows with only his first release, when Ichigo was barely able to take it on with is Bankai.
this is inaccurate, you have 2 12th squad captains, zaraki is supposed to be 11th

I’d put Urahara just above Ichigo. In fact if you are up to date with the manga, both Gin and Tousen should be above Ichigo as well.
No comment about Kariya since he doesn’t exist in the manga.
Hollow Ichigo is really powerful but then again, that’s not really Ichigo anymore.

I don’t think Aizen is actually that strong. He’s just damned tricky and has a bankai that plays into that perfectly. Did he really stop Ichigo’s Bankai with just a finger, or did he step aside and use his power of “perfect hypnosis” to make Ichigo and everyone else there think he did? I know, if I were Aizen, which one I’d do.
hum…Aizen never made use of his Bankai yet. the Hypnosis thin was his Shikai . we don’t know what his Bankai his..and i bet it is as scary as Urahara’s Bankai . ..and now with the Hyougoku…i wonder if he can use a Mask O_o

I agree that a matchup would be more like a…that’d be 17-pointed star…than a line, with some people able to take advantage of others’ weakness. Something I’ve wanted to do is rank all the captains based on all the fighting styles - so, who has the cheapest, most overpowered zanpakutou (Aizen), a prize for best use of sword (Kenpachi, or maybe Gin?), best flash step (Yoruichi), strongest kidou user (probably Aizen), hand techniques (not sure), doesn’t die (Kenpachi), most unpredictible in battle (Kurotsuchi with the weird gadgets?), etc.
That kind of breakdown would reveal the various strengths and weaknesses characters have. If you see someone’s consistently in the top 3 or 4 across the various categories it’d be much more reasonable to say they’re more powerful than someone else than this linear ranking system, which is really pretty arbitrary, e.g. Byakuya isn’t more powerful than Ichigo because he would have beaten him in a fair fight (actually he did :-D), he’s stronger because he’s got a nasty flash step, good kidou, good sword use, and lots of zanpakutou techniques while Ichigo just has good sword use and doesn’t die, but never uses kidou and only knows Getsuga Tenshou.
Nice overview, anyway. I think Hitsugaya’s too high though. Sure, he’s got awesome abilities, but he has no endurance - one hit from a strong opponent and he’s down. Both Ichimaru and Aizen acted like Hitsugaya wasn’t worth any effort when they fought him - it makes me think that Hitsugaya has more confidence than power, or can’t control his power fully, or something. Even Mayuri who you have near the bottom was able to take a bunch of hits before he turned into a puddle and oozed away.
Mangator: Aizen is definitely powerful enough to stop Ichigo’s Bankai with a finger. We already know it’s possible to stop attacks with your hand by using enough reiatsu. Soi Fon explains this in her fight with Yoruichi. At the end of episode 46, Aizen clearly uses this ability - he couldn’t have stopped the hollow with his sword’s ability because he never pulled his sword. Given that Yoruichi stopped an uber powered-up lightning punch with her bare hand, it’s reasonable that Aizen stops a sword swing with his finger - even though Ichigo was in bankai, he wasn’t using an ability at the time. Also, Ichigo obviously wasn’t in good fighting condition after almost getting killed by Kuchiki.
As much as I like Shiro-chan, I agree with Ghoti. Gin didn’t seem to be taking him too seriously when they fought.
I’m pretty sure Yoruichi and Soi Fong have Bankai, it just hasn’t been revealed yet. If I remember correctly, wasn’t it a requirement to become a captain? Zaraki being an exception, of course.
Mangator: If you continue to read the manga or wait until the anime catches up, you will see that Aizen wouldn’t even need to use a finger, his spiritual pressure alone would be more than enough to push Ichigo to his knees or maybe knock him out even.
I guess it really depends on whether this power scale is based on the manga or anime.
is hanamori and hitsugaya toushiro brother and sisters or are they just childhood friends?
I’m pretty sure they are just friends. note that the last names are different. Hinamori, Hitsugaya.
As much as I love Hitsugaya, he isn’t as strong as you put him. Yoruichi and/or Urahara could definitely beat him, and because Hitsugaya’s a lot younger than the rest, he doesn’t have as much control as some of the others. Utitake isn’t that strong, mostly because he’s sick half the time.
Urahara practically made Ichigo become what he is - the hollow part of him, his shikai, it was his invention that allowed Ichigo to get bankai (and Yoruichi who also helped him) so you can’t say they’re weaker than him.
ichigo’s stronger than byakuya, he was able to dodge the petal things created by his bankai. And I’m sure that zaraki could own byakuya, he has a knack for figuring out peoples bankais and well, destroying them.
And Mayuri, while he isn’t strong, persay, he definitely has a lot of tricks, being almost undefeatable unless you hit him in the head (he turns into goo and reconstructs himself in his lab)
Ichigo was weak from the battle with Kuchiki Byakuya that is why he lost to aizen so easily
i think that unohana might be stronger…cos when aizen just finished fighting hitsugaya and he was leaving it looked that aizen hesitated into fightin her..well thats just my opinion..and then theres also ichigos dad he looks pretty tough..
BTW what is with everybody thinking Yourichi is was the 2nd Squads captain before Soifon?
it is never stated that Yourichi was ever the 2nd Squads Captain, only that she was the leader of the Secert Mobile Corp. Hell, Yourichi doesnt even have a Zapakutou

however, she does have a zanpakuto, which she uses in the sealed sword frenzy OAV

Captain Kuchiki is definetly the strongest(even Kariya said so) I mean he defeated Ichigo twice( once saved by Yourichi)and he was just about to kill Ichigo when his Hollow form apeared. Also when the fight was over, even though Ichigo shattered Byakuya’s blade, he could barely move compared to Byakuya!!!!!! Ichigo also couldn’t dogde Karia’s attacks when Byakuya didn’t even have to move.
summer, im afraid youre very wrong. kuchiki is certainly strong, but nowhere near as strong as someone like aizen, yamamoto, shunsui etc…and just coz kariya says he is doesnt mean he is. kariya never faced many captains so he has no grounds to judge.
why did u have kariya above ichigo when ichigo is the one that kills him? that doesnt really make much sense i mean ichigo did have some help but ichigo didnt even use the hollow which would have absolutely slaughtered him and gin deffinatly isnt that strong he actually kinda sucks at fighting but other than that pretty good

Yoruichi and Urahara should definitely be higher up on the list, Hitsugaya should be lower down the list, and I agree that without Ichigo’s hollow-form Byakuya would totally kick Ichigo’s ass
I believe that Aizen would be able to beat Yamamoto seeing that he is no longer in his prime and Aizen is amazingly powerful. Good job on the list though!

Gin could most likely defeat Zaraki if he could catch him in one of his blind and strike moves.
Okay, Danny no tat the ppl u think r stronger than Byakuya might be (also I hate to admit)But still the’re all wayyyyyyyy older than him so tats resonable, rit? And I havn’t seen them fight tat much so I guess Byakuya really gives me a stronger inpression than other captains. But Byakuya certainly has the rits ang noblility of 1 of the most succesful captains. (But u can always tell me if I’m wrong)
I think that Unohana should be a lot higher. Like someone else said before, Aizen was hesitant to fight her when they confronted. I think she’d probably be on his level then since she didn’t seem like she wanted to jump into battle either. Plus, we’ve never even seen her fight.
Urahara should be much, much higher. He could fight Espada-class arrancar with just his initial release whereas Ichigo got completely owned by Grimmjow even in his Bankai form.

I’ve been into Bleach for some time now…and i’m up to snuff on the Japanese manga’s. Based on what’ve seen in translated Japanese mangas…This list isnt that accurate… First of all….Hitsuguya is way too high on the list…He is actually one of the weaker captains, that’s why they show him fight so much… Ichimaru was toying with Hitsuguya and didnt even try to attack until he got his arm caught in ice….He damn near caught Hitsuguya with Shin-So (Sacred Spear). Also…Byakuya is pretty strong…but he is no where near Yoiruchi or Kisuke… I think all of the older captains are much stronger than the current captains with the exception of Ukitake/Kyoraku. I think those too are actually stronger than Aizen…Thinnk about it…Yamamoto trained them directly and he even said that their skills were always trancendent above all the other captains since the beginning…enough said! they’re probably the reason that Aizen had to sneak his plan under the Gotei 13 (along with Yamamoto of course) and even Aizen thought that there was one in a million chance to stop Rukia’s execution, but Ukitake & Kyoraku did it! And when Aizen was acending to Hecto Mundo…that scene where Ukitake steps in frame from a low angle and talks to Aizen…was pretty powerful and shows his place as most respected and most powerful among the captains….So without further ado…here’s my list…
-Yamamoto (Grandmaster)
-Ukitake/Kyoraku (they dont fight because they’re too strong…like Jokers in a deck of cards)
-Aizen (Looks cooler with the glasses)
-Isshin (Had the cloth of a captain on one of his arms…hmmmm?)
-Kisuke (Inspector Gadget!..strong as hell!)
-Yoiruchi (Catwoman)
-Ichimaru (It’s a reason that he hasn’t really fought yet….most trusted by Aizen)
-Kenpachi (Unlimited reitsu…The M. Bison of Bleach!!!…he could be higher)
-Tousen (How in the hell did he get so much stronger in Hecto Mundo!!!!!)
-Byakuya (I think he is overrated… nice Zanpakuto)
-Komamaru (Withstood a level 90 kido attack from Aizen…and was able to walk in minutes)
- Soi Fon (……dont really care about her)
-Kurotsuchi (Just plain weird…got his ass kicked by that quincy kid)
-Unohana (A healer…she even admitted that it would be dangerous for her and Isane to be near Byakuya and Ichigo while they fought cause they werent strong enough.

anybody talking about the bount arc shouldn’t be, because technically that has nothing to do with the actual story or characters.
the fact that zaraki would kick even more ass if he had a shikai/bankai is irrelevant.
all captains have a bankai, it’s a requirement (with the exception of zaraki who gained his captain rank by defeating a captain in a duel.)
hollow form is just another of ichigo’s abilities, whether he has to use that or not to defeat his opponent shouldn’t mean he is weaker, only that he has something powerful to aid him.
the espada have much greater strength than the captains, the ones defeated in the real world were the weakest of them. grimmjow cleaned the floor with ichigo, tousen disposed of grimmjow, and tousen is aizen’s subordinate. the fact that aizen’s shown ability is a cheap trick, doesn’t take away from how devastating an attack of that sort would be, it shouldn’t be underestimated.
lastly, creating a list like this is absolutely absurd, we barely know anything about any of the captains, and we have barely seen any of the espada, trying to scale their strength is impossible.
This is how it really is.
1. Aizen (mastered all Shinigami arts, leader of the Arrcanar)
2. Yamamoto (leader of the 13 squads. 2 captains feared him in battle)
3. Ichigo (simply because he’s Ichigo)
3. Byakuya (large variety of attacks and very skilled)
5. Tousen (amazing bankai and easily cut off Grimmjow’s arm)
6. Gin (obviously held back against Toushiro, has effective attacks and serves under Aizen. there seems to be a lot more to his abilities)
7. Shunsui(although he dislikes fighting he was one of the first to become a captain and was acknowledged by Yamamoto so must have alot of experience)
9. Zaraki (incredible reiatsu, love for fighting, and pain resistance. imagine if he had a bankai)
10. Ukitake (same as Shunsui except he’s ill. i don’t think he could defeat Zaraki)
10. Urahara (a former captain, and said that his bankai was very dangerous)
10. Kariya (leader of the bounto blah blah blah)
11. Toushiro (too inexperienced but skilled)
13. Yoruichi (former military leader. defeated Soi Fong and out flash stepped Byakuya)
14. Soi Fong (interesting zanpaktou ability and skilled in hand to hand combat)
15. Mayuri (i hate this captain he sucks)
16. Unohana (she a lover not a fighter)
um excuse me, ichimaru is THE badass of the series, i believe he and aizen are near equals. ichimaru hasn’t felt any need to fight seriously and could certainly take a punk like hitsugaya. plus he’s like the coolest character in any anime i’ve ever seen and bleach isn’t even near my favorite anime.

Guys uh…As far as the most current info goes, Zeraki does in fact have first release. His like Ichigo’s is a permanent release. Furthermore, if Aizen only uses cheap tricks, how did he one-hit a captain with a kido spell, without even using the chant? As far as the Espada go, most of them are probably on par with the captain’s as far as we know, save for maybe the top four, being that Ulqiorra is 4, and has no trouble whatsoever tearing apart Ichigo in hollow transformation. The reason I say they are on par with the Captains is because Yammi would’ve been taken down by Ichigo with little effort, before the hollow interfered. The captains that obviously would not be capable of it yet, are Unohara, and Toushiro. Unohara, because she’s the captain of the medical 4th squad, and Toushiro because despite being a boy genius, he’s still young and has not fully honed his skill, which makes him a perfect candidate in the show to become a lot stronger, just like Ichigo. If you are taking Kisuke into consideration here, he’s clearly a lot stronger than the majority of the captains, and is probably on par with the highest of the Espada, as Ulqiorra mentioned that He and Yammi had the advantage against them, because they were forced to tend to Ichigo and the others who had been beat prior to their arrival. Tousen and Gin at this point are probably upper Espada level, although you can’t use the whole Tousen taking off Grimmjow’s hand because, Grimmjow would not be on his guard with someone who is supposed to be on his side. On a side note, I like the character Kariya Jin, but I know he can’t be compared really, because he’s exclusive only to the anime, and really was more of a way to repeat an even battle with a sub-par story behind it until the new episodes could be aired.
What About IKAKU no mention of him i’m sure he’s stronger than Kurotsuchi Mayuri.
yo i think that tousen should be waaaay higher on d list bcuz i dnt think he was seriousl fighting with zaraki bcuz he didnt want 2 show off his true skills also he wouldnt b aizens subordinent bt pretty good list i totally agree with some of the ppl b4 me good job guyz

Nice list, glad to see that at least Kenpachi is only ranked below those who are obviously above him (Ichigo, Aizen, Yamamoto etc). Course, it makes me wonder what would happen if he ever got the hang of controlling his sword and getting a bankai. *whole spirit world explodes*
Not sure about Toshirou though, he’s strong for his age, that’s for sure, but because he’s so young for a captain, I’m willing to bet that he hasn’t fully mastered all of his skills.

at the moment though ichgio would be the third strongest person since he has the Show Spoiler ▼
so against kuchi rukia he would be done in like 5 seconds. the bounto got killed after using his full strength plus more from the bounto seal and in the end ichgio beat him with only banki without trying.
Wouldnt it be nice if they actually showed some of these fights instead of us having to imagine them? It looks like were getting the adventures of afterlife cooking and of kon the white teddy bear instead. -.-
First of all, Aizen is not stronger than Yamamoto, no way in hell. He is strong but the Arrancar only follow him because he is fearless, and things created out of fear respects that. I beleive Yamamoto is #1, after comes Kyouraku Shunsui, then Ukitake Juushiro and THEN there’s Aizen Sousuke. Only my predictions.. I do not believe that one Captain is stronger than the Captain-Commander, wouldn’t that captain become captain-commander at that moment? Just a speculation
I’d have to agree with yamamoto being #1, urahara should be higher than ichigo, seeing as how he has never even shown his bankai, but most of these lists arent correct anyhow, seeing as how no one knows how strong anyone truly is, Show Spoiler ▼
but since he’s young he doesnt have full potential yet, shunsui being one of my favs I know he’s extremely strong and byakuya would be stronger than ichigo but I’d probably see the list as

2.aizen\urahara\isshin (seeing as how,urahara and aizen both peaked as captains and isshin being a good friend never showing up till recently they all seem equal)
3.shunshui\ukitake (I’d say there about equal)
4.gin\tousen(dont really know but arrancar are mega strong)
5.byakuya(most famous captain, and is a prodigy)
6.ichigo\ikkaku\ (I see ikkaku at a captain level)
7.kenpachi(this guy could go up very high once he learns bankai if he ever does)
8.yoruichi\hitsuguya (I’d put yoruichi up higher, but her level dropped due to lack of training)
9.soi fong
10\11\12.and the other captains I dont know well enough about to determine
which would be that wolf whatever guy,mryuu and the healer they dont fight much.
angle is an idoit how do u know he didnt try, no way ichigo is the third strongest, even with his hollow mask, i put his like 5th or 6th and thats not including the epasades
Im not up 2 date with the manga but based on ability and the game series(Bleach Heat The Soul 1-4)The strongest captain would be Aizen because of his mastery skill. People like Byakuya and Kenpachi are impressive but are limited 2 their cockiness. Others like Tousen, Aizen, Shunsui, etc. should be higher because they are skillful without having to use special techniques. Ichigo on the other hand is no real Soul Reaper so u have 2 admire natural ability. Not only that his body handles alot of cuts and pain

yoruichi isn’t a shinigami.
she wasn’t a captain, she was only leader of the stealth corp.
hence her not having a zanpakuto. also, of course soifon has a bankai,
its a requirement for all captains (except zaraki since he just pwnt the last captain). also, kariya’s doll was that wind sword thing he used. ne ways that aside.
i am pretty confident that gin is stronger than hitsugaya, seeing as how even though hitsugaya was able to “win” the battle over hinamori, hitsugaya was going almost all out and gin was kinda messing around. although i wish hitsugaya was stronger because hes one of my favorite characters, it seems hes among the weaker captains.
also,i would bet that Aizen is stronger than yamamoto, only because if yamamoto could defeat aizen then the whole conflict would end.
next, i believe tousen could defeat komamaru. its just a hunch, but although komamaru may be physically stronger, i think in a battle tousen could defeat him. (im also basing this assuming that gin and tousen, being the 2 to leave with Aizen, are stronger if not much stronger than they let the other captains know)
lastly, im not sure where to put him, but i would guess kisuke urahara is much stronger than several of the captains. he commented to renji while training chad that his “bankai is not something to be used to train someone”. id guess its something deadly.

My favirote charecter is Toushirou and I took this test today and it was for what captain you’re most like. The caption I was most like was Toushirou and for a lutenit I was most like his lutenir. So if you don’t like that well thats to bad for you because it wasn’t my choice to be like him.

at least not as far as the anime shows. i haven’t seen the manga, but..
even still. unless retsu unohana suddenly RANDOMLYgets a huge power surge and a whole new bankai or something, its impossible for her to be third strongest.
shes strictly a healer and she even says herself she isn’t suited for combat.
next, ukitake is matched evenly with kyoraku. and zaraki is DEFINITELY stronger than mayuri kurosutchi. even without a bankai or shikai.
note he easily defeated both tousen and komamaru simultaneously and they both used their bankais, and according to ur list they are both ranked above kurosutchi.
also, when kurosutchi goes to interogate ikkaku after his first encounter with ichigo, zaraki stops him before he can and its clear that kurosutchi held a fear for kenpachi.
if this were a popularity poll then maybe i could see it happening.
but strength and combat wise, it has its faults.
not my listing, i personally don’t agree with a few of them, but if you have a problem take it up with kubo tite, he’s responsible for this listing.
besides, its not really combat wise, rather statistically.
oh, and unohana’s bankai is yet to be revealed. (that manta-ray-thing is the shikai)
Hehehehe… I also love this anime, bleach, and talking about unohana, i think the right name was uruhara and i think he can fight the two captains which belongs to hueco mundo, aizen and tousen with his own ability and his bankai still never revealed yet.

ure all under estimatin gin hes the closest character 2 aizen and with his unreleased zanpakto he absorbs toshiros shikai his shikai alone is super awesome just a little swing of the hand boom every1s dead and hes higher than the espada and we dont even kno sum of their names let alone their powers

Ok im not sure if everyone will agree but i think the list should be like this
1.) Aizen - because his spirit pressure is soo intense also because of his swords absolute hypnosis or whatever it is
2.) Tousan, Gin, and Ichigo - are probably around the same level considering that Aizen felt that Tousan and Gin were worth it to have around and Ichigo because with his mask and bankai combo is incredibly powerful
3.) Urahara and Yamamoto - Although we havn’t seen Urahara go all out he was a former captain, trained ichigo, and created the hougyoku (i have no idea how to spell that…) so Uraharas got to be pretty good. Also Yamamotos strength is definately massive
4.) Kyoraku and Ukitake - when Yamamoto explained their strengths as they were battling he really built them up so i think that they’re strong, but they just don’t enjoy fighting as much as zaraki
5.) Zaraki - Actually im not really sure about him i know hes decently smart, but i dont think he has to be that good of a fighter to win all the time because of his amazing spiritual pressure, but then again if he somehow learned his swords name and could release it i’d put him at number one
6.) Kurotsuchi and Hitsugaya - Hitsugaya is young and is considered a child prodigy so i think that he will definitely get a lot stronger especially since hyornimaru is the strongest ice zanpaktou Kurotsuchi… i think that he’s strong and his zanpaktous abiity (when its just released not bankai because his bankai is kinda creepy…) is very useful also since he can turn into goo when his life is in danger is rather useful
I really dont know where to put Unohana, Soi fon, Yoroichi, and Kariya compared to the others Unohana is definately strong, but besides healing we really dont know what else she can do
i think that Soi fon and Yoroichi are around the same level but im not sure where i would put them in the list and lastly i didnt watch much about the bounto so i have no clue where to put kariya, but i know that he is below ichigo

i’ve been reading alot of the comments and although most of hte thoughts are somewhat logical, if you go back and re-examine some fo hte key details of hte show, half these lists go to shit.
for example, LCW’s post liek 2 or 3 above this. its not that “aizen didnt dare” to engage kyouraku/ukitake or unohana. its that he saw no reason to it.
didnt give a rats ass enough to waste his time slaughtering 2 captains for shiitss and giggles.
and to save people some time. until the series is over i think its impossible to gauge everyones power in relation to each other because 1, after zaraki’s fight against tousen and komamura, there are no other direct comparisons of captain vs captain strength. and also, LCW, to put komamura’s bankai so low just because it ddidnt “seem” good i the 5 seconds u saw it arent exactly fair considering it was against aizen who is said to have “more than double a captain’s reiatsu”.
clearing up yoruichi, the stealth corps is squad 2, and she led the stealth corps, and therefore squad 2. It’s also said in the anime that soi fon’s zanpaktou used to be yuruichi’s.
for kariya, i think this was mentioned already but his doll is combined with him, that wind stuff he uses is his dolls power, and if anime watchers recall, kariya destroyed ichigo in almost every fight, except the last one
Tousen good easily beat almost anyone due to his shikais ability to knock you out as long as you hear it.
Ichigo has never seen Aizen release his zanpaktou, therefore when aizen blocked Ichigo’s attack it was not an illusion.
I want to see Ichimaru’s bankai, that would be cool

if Ichigo can train for 1000 more years he can be number one. Ichigo with only a few months of fighting experience fights on par with Captain level Shinigami.

I’d like to see more of Urahara figthing as he can fight pretty well and get to use a lot of those weird gadgets.
Yamamoto can be ranked number one along with Aizen. He’s got all the years of experience. I am thinking that when still in Soul Society Aizen, Gin, and Tousen can never be way above the other captains as they need to sneak, and use Negacion to go to Hueco Mundo. I like Aizen and Gin as antagonists but not Tousen, the former two is just simply cool.
I have a comment sorry to nit pick but i think you should know at the top of the page you said that Captain Zaraki Kenpachi did not have a Shikai but he dose (like Ichigo after he achives Shikai) Kenpachi’s Zanpakuto is all ways in its Shikai form because of Kenpachi’s unbeliveable amount of spirit power. I dont know if some one already mentioned it or not but thought you should know.
you under estimated the strength of Shihouin Yoruichi and Urahara Kisuke. we haven’t seen their bankai’s, and not even Yoruichi shikai has been seen yet. Yoruichi also has a lot of hidden skills that we haven’t seen and she taught Byakuya, hinting that Yoruichi could even be stronger than Byakuya. She’s probably going to fight the Girl espada which ranks between 1~3. Gin is definitely stronger than Hitsugaya (he took on Hitsugaya’s bankai when he didnt even use his yet…come on and plus him and tousen probably got a power up in Hueco Mundo because they probably borrowed Hollow powers as well)
I think it’s all about right except that Urahara and Yoruichi should be higher, I mean, Urahara is definetely stronger than some of the captains you put above him. And Yoruichi is the god of flash.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi is a FREAK! Have you not watched the anime? Limiting mechanical tests to five hours a day being generous makes him cool to you? He’s so freaking cruel! *shakes head desparingly* I supose it’s a nice characeter but if I met him in real life, AHHHHHHHHHH! FREAK!

Ichigo has the greatest potential but he’s probably not the strongest right now.
The reason why Ichigo and Aizen are probably the strongest is because from
EPISODE 61! Watch the ending and read it carefully. Aizen explains there are 4 types of combat and when you master all 4 of them, the death god shinigami has reached its limit….and there’s only one way to exceed the limit –> hollowization of a death god. Only Ichigo has done that and probably Aizen knows how too.
All other captains fall in the 4 combat types. Urahara probably also knows about hollowization and could be the in the top 3 easily.

Zaraki is probably one of the strongest, he doesnt even use his releases. Included he uses an eyepatch that decrease his spirit power.
And..
He fucking pwn the 5th Espada without using any releases. When Ichigo almost got his ass kicked with all his powers against the 6th.
zaraki release his power when he fought 5th espada( 5th espada actually cut his eyepatch off and in turn had to release his true form) and was almost got manhandled with it until he did a simple trick that totally turn the tables and that was holding his sword with both hands instead of his usual 1 hand fighting form
