Bleach: Episode 141

Rating: 8.3/10

Impressions:

This week, Bleach covers only one chapter of manga, and does it amazingly well, in my opinion. I love the execution of this episode, and although it does feel slightly slow, the stretching of the chapter is handled exceptionally well. The episode follows the chapter very loyally, with a few extra flashbacks, a few extra silent moments, and drawn out speeches in general, which all contribute to the sappy stuff with Inoue and Ichigo. Aww…how cute. Not to mention, the quality is surprisingly high this episode, meaning Inoue is actually drawn accurately (what a relief). This might be due to the lack of fighting and complex animation, but it’s great nonetheless.

Is anyone wondering why Ulquiorra gives Inoue 12 hours grace time, as well as permission to say goodbye to one person? Apparently, it’s to gain her trust. In doing so, Inoue would be more likely to cooperate, once in Aizen’s hands. I guess people should be able to see where this is going now (Inoue’s capture would be the equivalent of Rukia’s, back in the Soul Society arc). And likewise, it doesn’t look like Inoue’s gonna get much screen time after this, just like Rukia.

I don’t really have much to say, with this episode only covering one chapter, except the usual stuff I guess. There are still no new Bleach titles, though you can find on ANN that there will be no Bleach after episode 143 (for a week only of course). If they start the Hueco Mundo arc, they could easily slow the pacing down a little without too much trouble. Having fillers now would be pretty depressing.

With Toushiro’s pondering about Urahara in this episode, I wonder how strong Toushiro thinks the ex-captain is. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to fight in the future, which would be a pretty cool battle, though I’d place my bets on Urahara. He certainly needs more involvement, and more interaction with the other members of the Gotei 13 would be nice as well.

The short interaction between Rukia and Isshin got me wondering about whether Isshin knows all about Rukia and her being a Shinigami. I’d say he most likely does, since he seems like the Urahara-’know-it-all’ type, utilising his fatherly skills in child-monitoring xD. Speaking of which, he and Ishida’s dad need to appear in the manga soon. They’ve been neglected to a great extent, sadly.

I liked the music through the whole episode. Although this kinda goofy song when Orihime sees Karin and Yuzu in Ichigis room was a bit odd. But all in all it was an awesome episode.

@novastorm (is that your real nickname?): I’m not sure how I should say this. I like your neutral view of this episode. I mean… I already read a few comments about this episode and in many of them was Orihime bashing. I’m relieved to read nothing like that in your review. Thank you! ^-^

Must. watch. now. I need to catch up with episodes 139-140 as well before I watch this one. I waited for this episode ever since I read the manga chapter. I hope it won’t disappoint me :)

I think fillers are coming soon… itll be a good time because Kubo STILL isnt done with the Hueco Mundo arc, and if Peirrot catches up to them… that means deep do doo and meaning recaps and anime only story line. after 143 itll be a great time for a filler arc. A short one.

This was a great episode! Inoue is one of my favorite characters, and I liked the fact that she got to express her blatant love for Ichigo. Also, zaaz, the answer to your question…

Indeed, one of the best episodes I have seen so far. I agree with the more meticulously done art this time around probably due to the lack of too much action and movements.

ANd I give you points for not bashing Orihime in this review. I’ve been getting a lot of that in other sites, which is a pity.
