Bleach: Episode 138

Impressions:
Dammit, I had thought Luppi (Grimjaww’s replacement) was a girl all this time, and it turns out he’s supposed to be a bishounen. Either than or ’she’ has a really unfeminine voice. Well okay, that’s not what really bothers me. The thing that does is how he manages to become the 6th espada. Shouldn’t the 7th espada have ascended to 6th, instead of some random coming in? For manga readers, you’ll also know the massive power difference between Luppi and a real espada. All I can think of is that Aizen has already planned that little ‘healing’ incident in the future, and made Luppi an espada just for the laughs of it.

Speaking of power comparisons, I really think the differences between the Espada and captains are pretty messed up. I would say that Ichigo with bankai can almost match up to Byakuya with bankai, though Ichigo can’t even get close to Grimjaww in his normal form. And we haven’t even seen his released form (though he has in the manga), so it can be assumed that the six strongest espada are definitely much stronger than Byakuya is. |

I personally never thought of Byakuya as that strong (I think Yoruichi, Urahara, Shunsui, Juushiro and Kenpachi at least are much stronger than Byakuya). Still, thinking about this and how Toushiro looks like he’s going to struggle with the 10th espada (which Ichigo would have defeated with Bankai if it weren’t for his hollow interfering), I can’t help but think that the rank of a ‘captain’ is far broader than it should be… |

Anyway, if you haven’t noticed, the anime has returned to the manga and has stayed pretty truthful. Hopefully there won’t be any fillers until after Hueco Mundo (which I think should be ending soon in Bleach…unless Kubo is going to conclude Aizen’s reign in that arc—which would take ages IMO). Unfortunately, the quality isn’t that high, except when the arrancar arrive in the real world, which is where the faces are actually drawn properly. |

This episode covers a nice two chapters, succeeding in not making the pacing seem slow. The order of events is switched slightly, though it is only localised in those two chapters, which doesn’t really change anything. These battles won’t last very long though, judging by the future episode titles. Ichigo can only hold his hollow state for 11 seconds currently, so they can’t stretch his fight at all. Oh, and episode 141…hmm yes. |

Nice post Danny. I think the anime version of Hueco Mundo arc could be better than the manga. All the fights are pretty messy in the manga, but the anime can make the fights not only more clear, but also enjoyable.I also think that the gap of power betweens the SS captains and the Espada is too big. Kubo will have to somehow power SS up, if he wants SS to play major role in the war in the winter(far,far away event). the manga is going downhill right now, but like I said, the anime should be better than the manga. I hope

I’ve been waited for the fillers to stop so I can start watch again and upon reading all of your posts and the info on episode 138 they’re done and I’m fired up about watching Bleach again. I’m back into bleach again thanks to you all. HAHAHAHA can’t wait for the next episodes.
