Bleach: Episode 132

Impressions:

I actually truly enjoyed this episode a helluva lot more than the previous arc, mainly because it had Karin, Toushiro…and you guessed it, a soccer ball xD. What impressed me the most about this episode was Toushiro’s perfectly drawn faces. Usually when it comes to fillers, it seems that the well-drawn manga visuals are replaced by failed attempts at creating abstract art, especially for the faces. Expressions are a common problem, where eyes, face edges and hair go flying everywhere across the head. Some even turn out looking like the opposite sex, or another character altogether (lol Yoakena).

Aside from Toushiro, the episode in general is done in much higher quality than the last, and his momentary combat scene looked a lot better than Rangiku, Ikkaku and Yumichika cutting through hollows like they were cake. The background art and use of music is impressive as well. Speaking of music, using the same action sequence BGM for Karin’s soccer match makes it funny somehow, perhaps because it makes it seem like the producers are trying to turn the game into an important matter. Anyway though, the real significant matter I believe is Karin’s concern for her brother, which I found really sweet.

The new ED is of course a huge improvement from ED number 11 (the last one heh). The song itself isn’t too good, though I can imagine myself getting used to it and liking it eventually. The animation uses the familiar sundown-type lighting, which blends in well with Ichigo’s and Inoue’s hair colour. This is most likely intentional due to the name of the song, ‘Bitter Orange’, which probably represents the tension in Ichigo’s and Inoue’s relationship, as well as the unfortunate circumstances to behold them in the episodes to come. Well, not the next episodes, since they are still fillers, but something eventual will happen to Inoue pretty soon now.

    Seems like Bleach anime is all about QUALITY fillers these days.

    No Rukia in the anime to salvage it.

    Then there’s the manga, with the anorexic release of a certain someone, that could not salvage the inexcusable absence of Rukia as well.

    Damn, Danny, I think I need a shitload of Vodka to get through these hard times.

    I admit, I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the “shouta-con” filler mini-arc, and I noticed the animation quality jump as well, but throughout the whole thing, I just couldn’t giggling about how much the episode’s premise remind me of a bad fanfiction. I can see the anime writers printing out a bunch of story summaries from fanfiction.net and throwing a dart and picking this one:

    “karin is worried about her brother, but she has to deal with bullies who are keeping her and her friends from playing soccer! can the cute white haired boy she just met help her!? (Hitsu/Karin) PLZ READ AND REVIEW”

    yeah lol renji’s forehead is pretty messed up; doubt the quality will be very high for the next episode

    Darkshaunz: you must endure the hardships in order to be finally rewarded with more rukia (hopefully) xD

    and yeah the quality of this filler is outstanding!…for a filler at least ^^;;

    Lol, I think this episode was the beginning and end of quality fillers, especially after seeing Renji’s head in next episode’s preview. Was fun while it lasted.
