Bleach: Episode 113

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

This episode runs through approximately two and a half chapters of the manga, which is a nice pace to go at. The remaining two thirds of chapter 190, as well as 191 and most of 192 are used in this episode. It is quite clear that Ichigo uses bankai next episode, though he’s meant to start it this episode, if it had followed through and animated the last page of chapter 192, which it didn’t. Oh well, this probably means they’re going to try and stretch the bankai sequence with some monologue or whatever, which is fine by me. I’d rather the anime go at a slower pace even, as I’ve talked about the pacing in this post.

At first, I was extremely shocked at the preview of the next episode. Not only does it show Ichigo whilst using bankai, it also shows him getting his ass whooped like crazy by Yami. Now after watching such a preview, who’s gonna look forward to the next episode and see Ichigo get thrown around? Well, I do! xD Hehe.

Well actually, after I referred back to the manga, I found the reason for them showing such a preview. But of course I’m not going to say. But I shall say now, the next episode will certainly be worthwhile and lots of fun! Plus, we get to see a couple of interesting people in action…oops, shouldn’t have said that. Oh well bleh!

There isn’t much change from the manga this episode, except the existence of Ririn, though that didn’t change anything at all. In the manga, Kon just remembers the promise to keep Isshin being a Shinigami a secret on his own, without Ririn reminding him (and kicking him around the room to shut him up).

When Ichigo is thinking about his hollow side in his room, he is actually meant to describe his feelings of it getting closer and swallowing him up. I think the anime did a good job by altering this and making his hollow side actually say this to Ichigo. It goes to show his hollow side is becoming more and more active, and his relativity to the Vaizards.

Quite a bit of information is given this episode, and I thought I would highlight the more important ones if anyone missed them. The main subject of all this is Inoue. Ulquiorra explains it nicely for us that Inoue’s power is not a healing power at all, like we had all been led to believe, but rather a skill to turn back…time? Woah, that’s pretty insane!

Also, another thing to note is the way Inoue decides to stand up for herself instead of always relying on Ichigo. And why the hell is this important? I think it’s pretty obvious…or maybe not. And even though the ending of this episode where Ichigo steps in is extremely clichéd, I can’t help but smile at the sight of him and Inoue together like that…

I’m kind of disappointed that, after such a speech, Inoue’s attack did nothing to Yami. If I remember correctly, Tsubaki’s power depends on how much the user wishes to ‘reject’, and in this case I’m pretty sure Inoue had a strong resolution to defeat Yami. Yet still she managed to do nothing. I was hoping at least a cut and some blood but…

Does anyone think this is a slow and somewhat boring episode? I hated the end of the fillers, mainly because there is no development in the characters, as all fillers lack, as well as how each episode is either a battle or the interchange between battles. With manga material, there is a lot of plot movement, meaning, yes I like this episode quite a bit!

BLEACH is fantastic once again! I’m so excited about the next episode. Waiting a week will suck but as long as BLEACH is back to its good manga material, I’m happy. Wetting myself (not really) with excitement!

No comments about Chad’s disproportionate body in the scene where he and Orihime were running? I thought it looked weird that his body looked smaller (mainly the torso and arms) and made him look like he was 9 yrs old or something…

Keep up the good work with the reviews.

acegunner: yeah i got that feeling too, though ulquirro is more composed and reasonable than vegeta…

AJ: i know how you feel, and I’m sure thousands of fans are thinking the same way!

boro ZZZ: yeah, if you compare the anime and manga versions, you’ll see the printed one is a lot more gruesome. I wonder why they censored it that much though…

brian: well yeah generally, if an episode stays at a certain quality for a while, i’ll usually not mention it

The Vegeta reference was probably intentional. More intended to be a homage rather than ripoff :P

You say that you would prefer the anime go at a slower pace…why? Do you want the anime to be a long drawn out melodramatic affair and turn into crap during this new arc?

I only ask this because IMO, the reason the first arc was good is because of the quick pacing. Nothing felt long and drawn out and the pace of the anime seemed quick enough to not get into boring melodrama like a lot of series(i’m looking at you Naruto) get. I’d rather go into another filler arc than see Bleach turn into another crappy anime all for the sake of “not catching up to the manga”. Yes, that means waiting around for more Bleach goodness again but wouldn’t you prefer that Bleach be the best anime it can be and wait a little bit longer to ensure it’s perfect rather than try to squeeze water out of a rock by prolonging scenes that shouldn’t be made longer?

Bleach will eventually catch up to the manga, that’s a fact of life. I’d rather have 40 really good episodes than 50-70 sub-par episodes. That’s just my opinion.

alkanphel: doubt it, unless the mangaka of bleach and DBZ are the same person, which they are not

Kuro: well its your own opinion that it would be boring if its drawn out. i stick to when i say i prefer the anime to be drawn out, as then it will slow down the approaching fillers that will surely come. also, having read the manga, there is no urgency to see the next episode for me..

and thats the thing, i wouldnt call 50-70 episodes of bleach that are drawn out slightl ’sub-par’
