Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto: Episodes 5 & 6

Rating: 8.3/10 & 8.3/10

Impressions:

Oh goddamn, four episodes went and got subbed without me even noticing. This whole series so far seems to be going through an orderly cycle every episode, consisting of a play, fight and some more background information given. With this though, it may seem a little repetitive and hectic, though hopefully there will now be variations in execution in later episodes as the story progresses. Akazuki is a little disappointing, as he is not nearly as skilled or strong as I envisioned him. He is meant to be the Eternal Assassin, though currently he seems nothing more than a mere samurai who is strongly drawn to the Lord’s Head. Surely he has some secret power or something. At least with the introduction of more characters and things starting to make sense now, the show can make a turn and stray from the cycle of predictable events. One thing that’s been lacking is character development between the protagonists, especially Akazuki and the girl…dammit I forgot her name!

I wanted to see how anime-blogger think of this show(particularly ep.13), I came across your blog (again), I must have missed this one on animenano last week.

I wouldn’t expect much character development from a “historic” drama like Iroha. Trust me, you will defintely see more on Akizuki, Yuyama and Kanna in the coming episodes. However, I enjoy action-packed episode like these more than those slower paced character development episode.

Danny-san, you even get the male protagonist’s name wrong, so forget about the female protagonist, lol. Hey, did you do that on purpose?

eoki: I guess it didn’t interest me as much as the many other shows I were blogging, and before I knew it, I had fallen behind so much I didn’t have enough time to catch up.

Hey Danny, I recommend you to pick back up on this anime. Tell you what, I finish all 26 episodes of this anime (I’m not going to give spoilers) and the first half of this anime is all “Yea, dumb foreigners, racist, etc, here’s our play, blah blah blah” and it doesn’t seem interesting. But just as pauloo said, wait till you get to episode 13 it picks up on the level of how interesting it is, some unexpected things, and… it begins to get interesting basically.

Oh, and also let me tell you, action? There’s really no action in this anime. It’s really more of a historical anime instead of showing flamboyant, exciting, anticipating, and awe-inspiring battles. Also, let me tell you again after half way through, the intensity and seriousness of this anime rises. So really, the real quality of this anime is at the second half.
