Autumn 2007 Preview

So in a few days, the fall season of 2007 really begins. Yeah, my preview’s a little late, as always, since I tend to leave to the last minute and rush whatever I do. I wrote this over the course of the week, but mostly over the last two days. Also, there may be mistakes, don’t flame me for it. Information could have been updated since I wrote it, etc. I left about the OAVs, specials and kid shows as well. Anyway, about my blogging whatever show: I’ve decided to severely cut down on the number of shows I’m doing, and so the only shows that have a chance at me blogging them, is if they are average or above. I plan to select maybe 5, and I already have a good idea what.

I am in the midst of watching the first two seasons, and so far it has been alright. So I can’t say I’m looking forward to this show that much, but being the sequel love that I am, I will definitely watch this as well. I don’t even know if this is a sequel or not. It’s called Da Capo 2, but technically, it should be 3, right? Not like it matters to people who’ve watched the first two seasons though. I wonder if the show will have an unusually short duration per episode, like the first season has. It airs at 1.00, so maybe not, unless it simply has very long ad breaks.

A kendo coach organises a competition with another kendo coach, to see which man’s team of five girls is stronger. I’ve read a bit of the manga, and it’s interesting enough, but I find that stories like these tend to wither away when converted to anime form. Instead, the comedy usually rises. I wonder how loyal the anime will be to the manga, since it’s still ongoing. I doubt this show will be more than two seasons.

The anime is based on a yonkoma based on a fine art’s club. At the start of a new school year, the fine arts club faces termination, as it only has one member. Luckily though, a few new members join, and yeah you can guess that they all have pretty wacky personalities. I’m guessing, then, that the show will be something like Lucky Star, with the short gags and lack of plot. I’m not too particularly interested, though I’ll give it a shot.

When I looked up the manga that this is based on, on Mangaupdates, I was quite shocked to read that it’s about a mysterious angel that shows up at a guy’s front doorstep, asking for sex. The picture sure doesn’t look like it would be an ecchi show like that. Of course, I realised I was looking at the wrong manga. Right. But then the actual manga that this anime is based on, is actually a prequel to the former one. But this one, apparently, is a single volume manga, consisting of several sci-fi shorts. So now I have no idea what to think.

It seems to be about gambling. That’s all I know. Aside from that, the art puts me off, which means I am highly unlikely to even try this. There are similarities to Akagi, a show about playing mahjong, based on a manga by the same mangaka as Kaiji. So if you enjoyed Akagi, you’ll probably want to take a look at this anime as well. Oh, and the seiyuu for Kaiji (the main character I guess) is also the one who voices Takuya in the movie ‘The Place Promised in Our Early Days’, one which I found to be a highly worthwhile movie.

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro

Genres: Mystery, Supernatural

The maniacal guy in the picture is Neuro, a demon from hell, who ‘feeds’ on mysteries. Having heard that earth is a place full of mysteries, he comes to the surface in search of the ultimate riddle, and comes across Yako, the girl in the picture. Yako’s father has been murdered, and the two team up to try and solve Yako’s father’s murder case. Yako’s seiyuu is Kana Ueda, who voiced characters such as Kinon from Gurren Lagann, Yumi from Maria-sama ga Miteruand Rin from Fate/stay night. Personally though, I’m not too keen on this one.

I can’t really say if I’m looking forward to this show or not, as I have no idea what it’s about. The only clues you get, if you can’t read Japanese, is the picture and the name of the title (Great Detective Labyrinth, I think). The character designs seem ok, and Studio DEEN is a pretty prominent studio, so quality shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Night Wizard -The Animation-

Japanese Title: ナイトウィザード The ANIMATION

I’m not sure what this show is about, but it seems to detail a story involving a war against demons. I guess the characters shown in the image must be warriors in this war. The picture sure looks attractive, but it’s not uncommon for series with interesting preview pictures to turn out shit, so I’m not getting my hopes up. The title has ‘The Animation’, so I’m guessing this is based on a game or something, but I haven’t been able to find any info on that.

Seems to be a school-life show about friends meeting again, after five years apart. That sounds pretty interesting, and the character design is pretty good in my opinion. It’s only a single season series as well, so I guess I’ll most likely check this out if it’s subbed.

A story on two sisters, one who can see ghosts, and one who is haunted by them. Apparently, the manga is pretty heart-warming, so no wacky horror stories! The older sister, Shizuru, is voiced by Ayako Kawasumi, who’s voiced characters such as Nono from Hitohira, Megumi from RahXephon, Yoshida from Shana, Otoha from Sky Girls, and Henrietta from Zero no Tsukaima. The younger sister’s seiyuu has had jobs like Hinata from Naruto, Yui from Ichigo 100%, and Misaki from Darker than Black. Also, the OP is by Riyu Kosaka! Anyway, ‘m quite attracted by the slice-of-life aspect, as I haven’t watched a good one in a while.

Man, I’m getting some serious Gurren Lagann vibes from the picture. That’s definitely a good thing. Truthfully though, I have no idea what the series will be about. I can say I love the character designs though, which means there’s not really anything to prevent me from trying the first episode out. The guy who voices Jin, the black haired, male lead, has also voiced such characters like Itsuki from SHnY (TMoHS), Akasaka from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kazuma from Kaze no Stigma and Yukito from AIR. The seiyuu who does Toa, the redhead female lead, has voiced Yuki from SHnY, Minami from Lucky Star, Sumire from VVV, and others.

The light novel is supposedly a shoujo-ai, but apparently, the anime is going to be an ecchi/comedy type show, involving Ninomiya (the guy) and two girls living with him. Sounds fun to me =D (He is My Master, anyone?) Character designs are totally generic, though pleasing enough. Yeah, I’ll probably watch this. The two girls are Mayu (pink hair) and Reika (blue hair). Mayu’s seiyuu is Mai Kadowaki, who’s done/will be doing characters such as Mimi from Kodomo no Jikan, Hakase from Negima, and Illya from Fate/stay night. Reika’s being done by Miyuki Sawashiro, and you can hear her from characters like Rekti from Heroic Age, Nekane from Negima!?, and Kazune from Kamichama Karin.

I’m not sure how, but this is certainly related to the You’re Under Arrest manga and series. Those who have enjoyed the said title will probably enjoy this as well, though I haven’t seen any of them, and don’t plan on starting. The concept of a police show in an anime doesn’t exactly appeal to me either.

The show I’m looking forward to most—the sequel to my 5th favourite anime. This show is supposed to be a sequel, so I’m guessing it will simply continue on with the light novel, from where the first season left off. There’s also the movie, but I don’t know where that would fit in. If you’re thinking of watching this, DO watch the first season. I’ve seen a lot of people trying to watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai without the first season, and are complaining of it being too confusing. Well there IS a good reason for that, guys. Anyway, I’ll definitely be blogging this.

After looking at the title, do you need to think any more? Well for those who aren’t already familiar with Clannad, it’s the next Kyoto Animation + Key show to come, with the success of Air (the first) and Kanon (the second). Kyoto Animation are also famous for their other works, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, FMP! Fumoffu, and FMP! TSR. Clannad is about a guy meeting girls at his school, with some supernatural elements I assume. ANN talks about dreams of a surreal world as well. I wonder what kind of character stereotypes the girls are going to adopt…The main girl, Nagisa, looks like an Ayu clone (from Kanon), but a lot older. Which is good. She’s voiced by Mai Nakahara, who’s done characters like Nagisa from Strawberry Panic, Rena from Higurashi, and Mai from Mai-Hime. For those hopeful fans, no, Tomokazu Sugita is not voicing Tomoyo.

Hinamori Amu is a girl in the 4th grade, seen to be highly popular and fashionable. However, she personally believes that she’s not being herself, and really wants to change her personality. And luckily, she manages to find three fairies who are able to help her in changing! This series is based on a shoujo manga, and is kinda like Kamichama Karin. I might check it out, as the character designs are nice, but I doubt I will follow it.

I have yet to fully watch a Gundam series from start to finish. The only one which I came close to was Gundam Seed. I’d like to actually watch one properly now, and this series should provide the perfect chance. The plot seems highly interesting to me, as it revolves around three world super powers, which are actually likely to happen. There’s the USA, the emerging nation China, and the European nations. If there’s going to be a WWIII in the future, it will probably involve these countries. There will probably be two seasons, with around 26 episodes in each. So I don’t know if I really want to blog it…

The guy who did the character designs for the visual novel also did those for sola, which is why I (and probably you) am getting some major sola vibes—the picture has this wonderful sola atmosphere to it, and the preview tells me I’m going to love it just like I did sola. At least, I hope I do. I am definitely going to watch this. Anyway, the story is about a manga drawer, called Hiro, who meets this girl and starts hanging around with her at school. Of course, it’s not as straightforward as that, and it sounds a lot like sola to me. =) His seiyuu has done roles such as Ayato from RahXephon, Ikuto from Nagasarete Airantou and Tatsuma from Tokyo Majin. The seiyuu of Miyako, the girl who Hiro meets and the one on the left in the picture, is relatively inexperienced, and I can’t find any major roles she’s done that I recognise.

I don’t see a male lead in the character info section of the official site, so I’m guessing this show will be about the love lives of the individual girls. It would be better that way anyway, as a harem would probably have a higher chance of failing. I like the character design, and the fact that J.C. Staff is doing this is great. Nice cast as well: Yuumi Hoshino’s VA~Nina from Mai-Otome, Tenma from School Rumble, Karen from Geass; Mao Mizusawa’s VA~Yoshino from Maria-sama ga Miteru, Luna from Gravion; Narumi Satonaka’s VA~Ai from Aria, Ogiue from Genshiken, Sakuya from Utawarerumono; Eriko Futami’s VA~Yakumo from School Rumble, Nodoka from Negima, Yuka from Elfen Lied; Asuka Sakino’s VA~Integra from Solty Rei, Alice from Aria.

I think we all know what Maplestory is. Quite a people would have played it, liked it etc. But now an anime? And it looks shit. It has a morning timeslot as well. If you don’t know what Maplestory is, it’s a side scrolling MMORPG. What’s an MMORPG? It’s a massively multiplayer online role playing game, where you get a character, kill monsters, level up etc. Think Ragnarok, WoW, Silkroad, Runescape, Trickster etc. I can say that I won’t be watching this, for sure.

About a guy who inherits his father’s company, after his disappearance. The company basically deals with magicians, and the show revolves around the guy’s experiences as the boss of things (and how he’s a coward). The novel it’s based on is a shounen one, and has actually been made into both a shounen and shoujo manga. The images I’ve seen regarding this show look highly interesting, so I’m definitely going to check this one out. The preview looks alright as well.

Looks like medieval-fantasy-adventure to me. It could definitely turn out to be a fun show, though I don’t have nearly enough knowledge of the show to make any judgements now. I thought it looked like a young kid’s show, though the time-slot suggests otherwise, which is good. The image certainly makes it appear interesting, though some might find it generic.

Think Kyo no Go no Ni. The author of the Minami-ke manga also drew Kyo no Go no Ni. The art and comedy styles are both similar. I’ve read a bit of the manga, and can say it’s hilarious. Whether that will translate well to the anime or not, I have no idea, but I have high hopes. It seems to be a short single-season series (12-13 episodes), though apparently a sequel is already planned to air immediately after, so it’s effective a two or more season series. The manga is slice-of-life/comedy about three sisters (my favourite is the youngest). The oldest, Haruka, is voiced by Rina Satou, who has done Negi from Negima, Kiyoh from Gurren Lagann, and many new anime that are coming next month. The middle sister, Kana, has a seiyuu who’s voiced Minato from Zegapain, Yoko from Gurren Lagann etc. The youngest, Chiaki, is voiced by Minori Chihara, the seiyuu of Yuki from SHnY, Minami from Lucky Star etc.

Taito receives a powerful sword at his coming of age ceremony, but is quickly stolen due to the hidden powers of which it can harness. Taito then seeks to retrieve the sword, along with his sister, Laila. I personally think the story sounds interesting, though the character design is not to my liking at all. And it’s the character design that’s usually the most important for me. I also generally dislike historically based anime, so I’ll probably pass on this one. Actually, it’s probably more shounen than history, but that’s not really a good thing.

I loved the first season, I loved the OAV, and now I’m probably going to love the second season as well. Genshiken is a slice-of-life show about the members of a college club, which involves itself with anime, manga and games. The thing I’m looking forward to most relating to Genshiken is the continued appearance of Ogiue—hopefully she decides to properly cosplay this time! xD It’s a shame this will yet again last for one season (12 episodes).

The manga is pretty good, while the OAV is awesome, and the anime will hopefully be just as good. Kodomo no Jikan (literally, children’s time) is about a 10 year old girl, Kokonoe, who has a crush on her young male teacher—and is extremely aggressive (this is an ecchi show, btw). On the other hand, she lives with her older brother, and the two are very close, as they have no parents. Kokonoe has two close friends, one being a girl who looks like a 1st grader, and has a crush on Kokonoe (Kuro), while the other is a mature-looking, shy girl who has the hots for Kokonoe’s brother (Mimi). And the manga is actually pretty serious—something which I hope the anime will retain. VAs: Kokonoe~Eri Kitamura (Saya from Blood+, Tatiana from Last Exile), Kuro~Kei Shindou (Rinko from Yume Tsukai), Mimi~Mai Kadowaki (Illya from F/SN, Hakase from Negima).

Yasuoka Shion’s parents were murdered when she was only four. This devastation led to the loss of her voice. There murder case was not solved due to lack of evidence. The only hint left behind was a shogi bored, with the pieces lined up in a certain fashion. Shion later gets adopted by her neighbours, and her new father teaches her how to play shogi. She discovers that she is a natural, and continues to venture future into the world of shogi. And it is her talent in shogi that, after 8 years, could unravel the unsolved mystery behind her parents’ murder. It sounds really interesting to me, and the character design is strangely different to what I’m used to seeing. I’m pretty keen on watching this, but there’s still quality and execution to think about. Shion’s seiyuu is Ayako Kawasumi, a talented VA who has done characters such as Yoshida from Shana, Otoha from Sky Girls, Megumi from RahXephon, Nodame from Nodame Cantabile, Kaori from Kanon, Ohno from Genshiken, Saber from F/SN, and Shizuno from Zegapain.

The characters remind me of Gigantic Formula, but I doubt the two shows will be anything alike. I *believe* that this show is about three high school students in a world where supernatural beings are invading. I can’t imagine this as a shounen—the image makes it seem like a mystery/thriller-type show, which would be a lot better. The screenshots on the official website make it look really high quality, and that’s a big deal for me. I have to say I’m very interested at this moment.

I still have no luck trying to find out more details on Mokke, which I heard was a very good manga series that is touching, rather than scary horror. I am quietly anticipating that. Ghost Hound has that Serial experiment lain feeling to it, and I cannot deny that I enjoy it a hell lot since it was my first anime. That is the biggest anime I am waiting for, other than Ef of course.

“I’m not sure how, but this is certainly related to the You’re Under Arrest manga and series.”

It’s pretty much a sequel that takes place a few years after the second season/series. You should give the series a chance because it has some very nice character development and interaction throughout, and uses the police aspect more as a backdrop for its characters. It really plays out more like a slice of life drama/comedy.

This is for you and everyone. Watch You’re Under Arrest. It is incredible. Watch the original series. It is from the era where character was important. There is also a sense of continuity throughout the entire series. It’s part mostly comedy, but they blend in the serious parts well. The best thing about the show is the characters and all the little things they do.

D.C.II takes place about 50 years I think after DC one with all new characters, so that’s why it’s DC II. It would be great to see Nanaka animated

Aa, too many shows that I might be interested air on Tuesday. What is up with that? I’m watching CLANNAND out of the pure hype I’m hearing. And I can never stay away from a Gundam series! I hope you actually finish one this time xDD Though Gundam series due tend to go on for at least four seasons.

15 series in total caught my eye. Busy Fall season if I watch them all through.

Minami-ke, Sketchbook, and You’re Under Arrest! are the ones I’m going to check out. Shana I’ve missed out on, and will just wait for some DVDs to come my way.

Clannad… the character designs keep me away, I’m afraid. In all other aspects I expect it will deliver, but characters are the #1 priority for me.

I’ve watch the first episode and it was quite nice. Not sure why you judge this anime lowly, but one thing u cant just judge an anime by it’s poster

Thanks for blogging the details (including the pix) for this seasons’ anime. It really helped me alot in deciding which ones to try out. I’ve watched some of the series and those that i like are:
    - Minami-Ke (laughed all the way, i like chiaki most)
    - Night wizard (some funny parts, rather cool magic gears)
    - You’re under arrest (A MUST-SEE! Exciting & action packed NOT-TO-BE-MISSED!)
    - KimiKiss (different kinds of romance that makes the story interesting)
    - Gundam 00 (mega cool GUNDAMS!)
    - Bamboo Blade (cute and skillful girl that fights for justice)

curious about prism ark to see if it will be run another lame run-of-the-mill pc game adaptation, or something decent.

overall season looks kool – shana 2 and rental magica look promising.

I watched some of them and would say that:
-Gundam 00 is awesome, definitely one of this season’s best series.
-Shakugan no Shana Second is starting a bit slow but that is normal for a sequel. New story development is still very interesting.
-Night Wizard is so so, not as good because it is too stereotyped. The game though was very original.
-Rental Magica was better than Night Wizard although there is no plot up to now.
-Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is very funny. You should be trying this because it has pretty new ideas inexplored before.

Shakugan no Shana II is what I’ve been waiting for a long time. I thought SNS 2nd season was gonna come out before Zero no Tsukaima’s 2nd season, but I guess it’s after. I think these two anime is very related. The seiyuu (voice actress) for both main character are the same person, and the character design is similar as well. What’s plus, both anime are top notch. Looking forward for your blog on this one!

For the record, Dragonaut the Resonance seems to be yet another example of a good story skewed by hordes of pointless fan-service. And we’re not talking about simple ero here, oh no… we’re talking flailing over-sized balloon mammaries! -_-; yet another series whose plot seems worthwhile seems to progressively degrade with every episode into something similar to Agent Aika…
