Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion R2: Episode 7

Rating: 8/10
Impressions:
With this entire episode devoted to Lelouch seeing through the shortcomings of his own plans as Zero, I would say it’s a welcome change to the usual action and thrill, littered with plot twists. While Lelouch’s character doesn’t really require much development anymore, this episode goes to show that he is indeed very human, and reminds us all of the reasons behind his plight—that is, Nunally. It’s no surprise that he has agreed to her offer to create the Special Administration Region of Japan, but we all have to think, will any good come from this? There’s still about two thirds of the series to go…

It was a little disappointing seeing the tactic that Lelouch uses to escape Suzaku’s trap, as well as seeing the unbelievably sudden uber power up that the Guren receives. However, the overall quality of the episode more than makes up for minor things likes that. I like how Karen has been considered on par with those belonging to the Knight of Rounds (I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called), which basically means Zero does actually look like he stands a chance. The there’s Rolo, who I’m sure will make an excellent asset to the frontline with his Geass powers. But still, these things alone makes it hard to believe that Zero is actually going to accomplish his mission.

What a…crap episode. Seriously, the animation quality dropped to something like 10% of what it is usually…not that that’s an accurate estimate, but oh well. Thus, the execution quality dropped severely as well. The animators resorted to the simplest of scene execution, which almost hurt my eyes. Some facial expressions look so ridiculous that it’s hardly even funny. And it’s not looking good in terms of storyline either. Now that Ichigo has become a bodyguard, I can’t see anything else happening aside from dodgy fights and character development between the princess and Ichigo, which I would assume should be comical, but would probably end up as just lame.

I found myself really enjoying this episode when I watched it, probably due to the nice and cheerful feel it has. Not only does it develop the characters of Alto and the others, it also makes the sci-fi setting a lot firmer. This is done through the well incorporated display of the more advanced technology that is employed by Frontier. Being a sci-fi fan, this in particular made the episode an excellent watch for me. Of course, it also generates a lot of hints for possible future events, such as more response by the aliens to Ranka’s voice, as well as the attack received by Sheryll’s home fleet. Now to watch the next episode…

Again, another nicely paced, well animated action episode. However, this series is seriously lacking some substance now. However, the semi-cliffhanger ending certain does a good job of eliminating that problem. I still haven’t seen the following few episodes, but I’ll be sure to get to them soon. One surprise for me was seeing the giant of a woman (can’t remember names…) turn into a loli character. Not just because it’s amusing in itself, but more likely due to the fact that such an outrageous thing was included in a rather serious show…but I guess it’s all in good fun.

I was going to say Bleach was looking somewhat promising…but then I saw this episode… subsequently episode 170…which I shall delve into somewhat later. Quality goes down, storyline becomes dull very suddenly when they screw up the execution of the episode…in my opinion of what. Also, when exactly is this arc set? As clearly…Ichigo and the others are back in the real world. Honestly, I want to see a lot more Gotei 13 involvement right now, and the Soul Society part of this new arc shows a lot more potential than the real world component. Also…new characters! They always increase potential…but it doesn’t mean the show will actually get better though. =/

I’m alive! Barely. Well I’m not going to try and explain myself, since it’s just pure laziness and lack of time…so I’ll get straight back into it. Well this is certainly a fun episode. The writers integrated some solid story progression in a nicely executed school-focused episode—which, to my delight, remains in high quality. There’s also a large amount of fanservice, which isn’t bad as it’s quite rare that Geass contains fanservice. If they were to include it in each episode…that would probably become rather off-putting and annoying, but for a happy-go-lucky-like episode this time, it’s perfectly fine in my opinion.

The problem with all these seemingly ingenious plans that Lelouch comes up with…is that they require a lot of luck and conveniently placed surroundings. Of course, I’m not complaining. I’m actually high pleased with this episode, as it really gets you into the mood of things with the suspense and excitement. I really like how Lelouch has basically completely converted Rolo to his side. There’s also Viletta, who still shows signs of weakness for Ougi (I think I got the names right…) This, with all the new characters and complications to the plot that are arising, I can foresee nothing but awesomeness to come.
