Death Note: Episode 31

Rating: 8.6/10

Impressions:

Unfortunately, I have to say that Death Note is now no where near as interesting as when it first started, due to the simplifying of characters and events. It is no doubt that things are being rushed, and with that known, the studio behind everything is actually doing a good job. However, I don’t know why the pacing was so off when Death Note was animated. Was it some abrupt budget cut, deadline notice or something? It feels very unnatural, and for me the show will probably only go downhill, since as you probably all know, I hate the ending. I didn’t like the depiction of my favourite character in the end, as well as the ‘winner’ of everything.

New Poll: The Lucky Star opening theme, Motteke! Sailor Fuku is…

Darker than BLACK and Lucky Star were the top two in the last poll, which I guess was to be expected. This new poll addresses the opening theme of the latter of the shows I mentioned: Lucky Star. The OP is not a favourite of mine, though when coupled with the animation sequence, it becomes an extremely catchy song. Especially if you know what the lyrics means. The poll asks what you think of the song, and please answer according to what you think of the song alone (not the animation or anything).

Darker than BLACK: Episode 7

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

Although the humour is obviously more apparent in this episode, it definitely is not the low-quality, irrelevant-to-plot, not-very-funny episode I had dreaded it to be. It’s still another Darker than Black short story, involving Hei and others, though this time with some random detective as the main character. The young-in-appearance girl isn’t even important, so this episode has definitely satisfied me. The biggest mistake Darker than Black could make would be to try and pull off a stunt that I thought they had did with this episode, and ruin the overall serious themes and general awesomeness of the show.

Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 6

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

New characters are always interesting, and finally Wataru and his maid have showed themselves. I still remember when I read this part in the manga, instantly disliking Wataru for his belief of being so superior than everyone else (when he’s actually poor lol), but he definitely gets better later in the story. The introduction of Wataru and Isumi once again expands the pool of unrequited love, as so far there has been no suitable couple. Also, I think by now that people who don’t know the story would have guessed that the girl with the twintails in random shots (this time she’s in a bath) is actually an important character. She’ll further expand this unrequited love poor surely…

Gigantic Formula: Episode 4

Rating: 9.2/10

Impressions:

Even though it was probably inevitable, the idea of this ‘conformity’ I guess is essentially the same as Evangelion’s ’synchronisation’. At least this way though, it’s not just a pilot inside a cockpit moving around joysticks, which is pretty lame in my opinion. It’s also nice to see that neither Mana nor Suwa are especially good at what they do. It would be pretty pointless if they started out as experts and defeated each nation’s Gigantic with ease. The way Mana was easily agitated like that was pretty tough to watch (have people gotten over the character designs yet?) Anyway, hopefully the next episode won’t be another battle episode, for a change of pace.

D.Gray-man: Episode 29

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

I’m beginning to think that these fillers might have actually replaced the manga now…ah but that’s highly unlikely since the anime is still very far from the most recent manga chapters. Unless these episodes were made a long way back, enough of the manga should have been out for a decent continuation into this second half of the series. I really want to see the story progress, and get to stage depicted in the OP. Speaking of which, I still haven’t gotten sick of watching the OP every time I watch D.Gray-man. I just love the song, and the animation and graphical quality is way higher than any of the actual episodes. Linali looks cool in it too. ;-)

Lucky Star: Episode 7

Rating: 9.7/10

Impressions:

Wow, Kona-chan going ‘Gokigenyo’ in onee-sama mode is really moe. I would should like to see more of that side of her. And was it just me, or was the quality rather high this episode? Or maybe it was the impressive animation of Akira’s expressions in the Lucky Channel section at the end of the episode. xD I do hope the quality gets a lot better (for Kyoto Animation standards), but not if it affects any future KyoAni productions, such as Clannad. Speaking of KyoAni, I hope they do a series that’s not a Key game afterwards. It would be nice if they bring up some unknown fantasy to light (I love my Shana and Mai Hime)!

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 12

Rating: 9.6/10

Impressions:

Ok for those of you who still don’t know, Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho ends at episode 14. However, not too sure about this, but it seems there will be more arcs to come in the form of sequels. Surely the show can’t just end at episode 14, where still nothing is resolved (well, nothing in terms of what is introduced in the upcoming episodes). I’m somewhat glad that this show is ending soon (for the subs I mean), since then I will have one less anime I have to keep up with, which I find very hard to do. I still haven’t caught up with everything after coming back from Japan. Once I do, posts should become longer and there should be more screencaps as well.
