Death Note: Episode 23

Rating: 9.6/10

Impressions:

What an awesome episode of Death Note, and the high speed car pursuit just livens the mood of what is usually only a slow and intellectual anime. Of course, that is not a bad thing, but this brings in a welcomed different form of suspense. In actual fact though, the pace of this episode is still quite slow, covering only 2 chapters. What worries me though, is that there are still 6 chapters until the real end of this arc, and hopefully that will only last 2 episodes. Yes, when this is over, non-manga readers will be shocked, and either satisfied or really pissed (I was one of those who were satisfied). I’ll say this now: we will meet Kira Light once again, and I am stoked!

Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 23

Rating: 8.5/10

Impressions:

So if this series finishes at episode 24, it doesn’t look like anything will be accomplished regarding the secret conspiracies involving Orlando and such. However, ANN has yet to put up the number of episodes this series is, which makes me unsure of the total yet. Anyway, this episode is a nice mixture of character development, action and plot progression. It looks like things are finally going to get a move on after the duel has been settled. It will be interesting to see how Section III can get out of the mess they are in now, and perhaps even save the nobles and commoners involved.

Bleach: Episode 119

Rating: 9.2/10

Impressions:

Amazingly, 9 pages worth of manga was converted to a full episode of Bleach, but of course that means most of it was filler. However, it is a filler that explores the past of Ikkaku, Kenpachi and others, even though most of it is actually made up. But that doesn’t matter now, since as it has been shown on TV, it is fact now. Anyway, this episode covers half of chapter 206, and the only non-filler areas are when Kenpachi lectures Ikkaku about living after beating the crap out of him, and Renji asking Ikkaku to become a captain. The rest is all new from the anime. Quality wise, this episode is definitely only of Bounto-arc-level animation, though some fights were animated very nicely.

Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 22

Rating: 8.6/10

Impressions:

Once again, I was expecting a lot of action, plot advancement and drama, but once again, little to nothing happened. Sure, there’s a lot of character development, but that is hardly necessary during the last few episodes of the series. Personally, I think at this stage of any series, it should be plot and climactic action all the way, until a nice resolution at the end. So far, the pace is far too slow, and it doesn’t feel like anything is getting achieved. Sure, maybe Alice changed the minds of some of the people around her, but that is not going to do anything. It does increase the drama and tension, though not much to my liking.

Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 21

Rating: 8.3/10

Impressions:

Well that was a dragged out episode, and to think this series is almost over. Have they even touched on the main plot yet? Or is this it? In any case, I was expecting some kickass fighting this episode, but it looks like I’ll have to wait for the next episode (but in my case, I will watch it as soon as I finish this post lol). It’s quite saddening to see Orlando so frightened and powerless, when you’re used to him owning everyone while in berserk mode. I was hoping he would pull the trigger on the flail guy, but with the resolve he has shown so far, it doesn’t look like he’s going to do it.

This is the show that everybody is talking about, and I’ve either heard that it’s really good, or something that people ‘might check out’. It’s pretty obvious that only those who’ve read the manga know how awesome this is, with a minority of those disliking it. Then there are the rest of you out there oblivious to how good the manga is, and so are forced to say that they will either check this show out due to the high anticipation, or reject it immediately to a seemingly crap premises. Hayate the Combat Butler is about a poor high school student (Hayate) who has been sold to the yakuza by his parents for his organs’ worth. In order to repay the debt though, he attempts to kidnap a girl, but ends up saving her from the yakuza. As repayment, the girl (who turns out to be rich) pays off his debt, and allows him to work as her butler to pay off his new debt, which he owes the girl. (Extracted from my spring 2007 preview, which hasn’t been posted yet lol)

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 9

Rating: 9.7/10

Impressions:

Once again, I am seriously confused about the timeline of this show, now that I’ve found I have no idea where to slot this episode chronologically. It should go after the last episode, though apparently Komaki loses her powers, and is in the process of regaining them. However, she never loses her powers in any previous episode that I remember, which brings about my confusion. If anyone who can understand Japanese better, or just more analytical and can help me out on this, it would be much appreciated. Nevertheless, 9 is a high quality and wonderful episode once again.

Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 21

Rating: 9.9/10

Impressions:

I think this is my favourite episode of Code Geass, and it turns out to be a relational development episode with some plot advancement, instead of one filled and wrapped with action. It was really fun watching everyone run into each other and start panicking, though unfortunately no one discovered the identity of anyone else, which was a shame. Eupphie did get in touch with Nanaly though, and that would have been nice if Eupphie didn’t end up proposing such a stupid plan at the end…Well, it’s stupid due to my personal feelings, as I really liked the idea of Suzaku, Eupphie and the Order joining forces to wipe out Britannia…though that will most likely never happen.
