D.Gray-man: Episode 23

Rating: 9.4/10

Impressions:

Wow, this has been quite an impressive arc. The emphasis on the relationship between Eliade and Krory is pretty moving, while there are some comedic parts to average the mood out as well. I like how this arc ends, with another death, and the affirmation that Akuma cannot live. Allen’s eye upgrade should prove to be useful too in the future, and a nice addiction to his arsenal of bodily weapons, another of which he will display next episode (cheating in poker xD). Overall, the action isn’t too great, but like I’ve said at the beginning of the series, it’s not the action that should be attractive, but the story. In this respect, D.Gray-man is fairly excellent.

New Poll: Which anime are you looking forward to most this season?

The last poll had a clear winner: the majority of those who visit this site think that both L and Light will die. Obviously I am not going to reveal the right answer, and please, don’t spoil in the comments either.

Anyway, the new poll is probably something you’ll see in a lot of places. It asks you, which anime are you looking forward to the most this season. I did not include all of them, so as long as the ‘other’ option isn’t thrashing the other options, everything should be fine. Check out my spring preview for more details on the upcoming shows.

Bleach: Episode 120

Rating: 8.8/10

Impressions:

I was rather disappointed with this episode. I was afraid the quality would be pretty low when I saw the preview from last episode. Not to mention the appearance of the mod souls, which immediately made the producers completely screw up the battle (I’ll explain later). Movement animation wise, it was alright. Facial animation; total crap. The actual fights? Well, they were pretty poorly executed as well. Sigh, what a letdown. And as you can see, I am not afraid of bashing my current favourite ongoing show. The problem again, next episode doesn’t look to be that much better from the previews. Did the animators blow their money on episode 118?

Spring 2007 Preview!

Did anyone notice my post count drop? Well, that’s because I foolishly left this post until the last minute, so for the past few days, I have been frantically compiling this list of new anime next month. I know I missed a few, and the information could well have changed since I wrote them. Also, there are some new spring shows that will be airing after next month, which I didn’t include. In total, I think I have around 40 anime previews. Anyway…

With spring fast approaching, I’ve done what just about every other blogger has or will do: a spring preview post. I’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible, though I know I’m missing a few titles (though I have what I think are the most major ones). I have given what I know about the anime, and the likelihood of me watching or blogging the show. As you know, I definitely can’t blog all the shows I watch (unless I end up watching very few shows), so I will pick out the ones that are easiest to blog, or the ones I like best. With the current anime I am blogging finishing up, I will have 10 or so spots to fill, which will be pretty hard, as spring is the biggest season of the anime year. (I think it goes like this, from largest to smallest: spring, fall, summer, winter). But anyway, I will probably do the first episodes of every anime I watch, unless it is just so crap I fail to sit through the first 20 minutes. After that though, it will be the second episode that will allow me to decide whether to blog something or not. Sometimes, even the third episode. I hate dropping shows, so this is why I will be extra cautious in choosing what to blog.

D.Gray-man: Episode 22

Rating: 9.3/10

Impressions:

Amazingly, I was just about to post my episode 24 review until I realised I haven’t even done episodes 22 and 23. Yeah, my memory is pretty bad. Anyway, the highlight of this episode is probably Allen’s upgrade, which I think is meant to have an eerie aura about it. In the manga, everything seems sort of cold and creepy, though for some reason this is absent in the anime. Nevertheless, this is a nice character development episode, and the arc is stretched quite a bit for an extra episode or two. I really like Eliade’s story as well; this was something that seems to be more powerful in the anime than the manga.

Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 22

Rating: 9.7/10 WTFness: 10/10

Impressions:

This episode is just a big OMFG episode that does not cease to depress, frustrate and bewilder me. I can not believe what the hell just happened, and although from an objective point of view, the plot twist is very well orientated, I highly disapprove of the events that occur in this episode. They are just unacceptably horrid. I have grown to liking the idea of Eupphie and Lelouch working together so much in the past few episodes, that due to this sudden earthquake in Geass’s plotline, I have no idea what to think. I believe it would be best to hold back any conscious thought for now until the end of the series in a few episodes time…

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 10

Rating: 9.9/10

Impressions:

The quality of this episode is quite higher compared to the last few episodes. The faces are all proportionate, and the fighting scenes are nicely animated and fast paced. As always, sound accompaniment is great and greatly excites in all the right times. It seems that Aoi will remain as the focus for some time, as this episode reveals that she possesses a special demonic power called the Eye of Bosatsu. Although I’m not sure what it does, it does mean she is a threat to humans and must be killed…oh shit what? Aoi needs to be killed? Noooo! Well, this will probably be good news for Aoi-haters, though I doubt she’s really gonna die.
