Mai-Otome Zwei: Episode 2

Rating: 9.3/10

Impressions:

Being a big fan of Mai Hime and Mai Otome, and a bigger fan of the Mai Otome manga, I, like many others I presume, have been eagerly anticipating the second episode in the Zwei OAV series. Overall, this second episode is actually a bit of a disappointment. Although not lacking in action and quality, it suffers from slow plot progression, especially as it is a four episode OAV. It seems like the final battle will probably begin next episode and end in the last episode. I was really hoping for more plot twists and extra development, with little subplots involving the various characters, but of course, what was I thinking? This isn’t a full fledged TV sequel…just a four episode OAV.

New Poll: Best girl for Maiku in Onegai Twins?

Inspired by a recent rewatch of one of my favourite series, Onegai Twins, and after realising that I don’t really have a favourite girl (in terms of who is better for Maiku, which excludes others such as Tsubaki). Technically, Miina ‘wins’ as she is not related to Maiku, and is free to show her love. However, if you have seen the OAV, you’ll know that at that stage, Karen is a lot closer (very literal) to Maiku. So I guess it’s like that to comfort both parties…

By the way, look to the sidebar for the poll!

AND by ‘best girl’ I really am only interested in knowing which girl you like better. The reason the question is phrased this way is otherwise, people would be wondering why the other girls aren’t included.

Baldr Force EXE Resolution: Episode 2

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

Well, the first thing I should say is that that ‘virtual’ sex scene was quite unexpected. Perhaps it was used to emphasise a point, but I really see no point of it being in there anyway. This entire episode bored me severely somehow. I’m glad this will only be 4 episodes long, as it should be pretyt straight to the point. As of now, it still doesn’t seem like much has happened. I guess the show should end when vengeance is exacted. The little girl will probably get involved as well, with a whole bunch of other stuff yadda yadda yaddah~ Oh and another thing, for an OAV, the quality is pretty crap, especialy the CG, which is absolute shit! (I think I may have said otherwise in my first post, but oh well!)

Soukou no Strain: Episodes 10 - 13 (END)

Rating: 8.8/10, 9.2/10, 9.5/10, 9.3/10

Overall Series Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

I can’t exactly say the ending is unique, and that is the main reason why I think it somewhat let the rest of the series down. I was expecting war on a grander scale, more deaths, and I wasn’t expecting Sara to survive either. I guess the overall flaw is the over-focus on Sara and her emotions, rather than on the plot, which had a lot of potential. Just one ship doesn’t cut it in my opinion. However, the ending is still very enjoyable, so I can’t complain too much. All in all, this is a series I would recommend, even for those who dislike mecha. It begins powerfully with all the deaths and angst, and rides along until the end with more emotional development and drama.

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 6

Rating: 9.7/10

Impressions:

I get more and more excited every time I watch this show. The fact that the series is still in a semi-eposodic format, with the main plot stil seemingly untouched, tells me that this series will be at least a double season show (eg. 24 or 26 episodes). And seeing as how these action-less episodes are still impressing me, when it gets to main storyline and everything starts coming together with monstrously large battles (hopefully), I will be stoked! The first episode seems pretty far into the story, though the ambiguous guy remains the main threat in that episode and seems untouched, therefore indicating it is not too far into the plot.

Naruto ~ Shippuden: Episode 3

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

I’ve decided to not include manga screens in Naruto posts, as I’m sure plenty of you already do read the manga. This is also due to the fact that I don’t like the show enough to bother with extra work in posts. This episode really drags out too much and is so incredibly boring and draining, EVEN THOUGH I watched it at 2x speed. There realy needs to be a helluva lot more music here and there. There are far too many pauses and silences, and none of this is to develop any characters or anything. It’s just plain stretching of the plot. I think many Naruto fans will be disappointed with this sequel, unless the quality improves soon.

Kanon: Episode 21

Rating: 9.9/10

Impressions:

Another awesome episode of Kanon, and this time, an episode which converted me to a Nayuki fan. I don’t dislike Ayu at all, though personally I think Nayuki has a better personality. And no, I am not satisfied with this single Nayuki-centric episode. Why should every other girl get several episodes to themselves and Yuuichi, while Nayuki gets only this one? It seems she will star again next episode, but this time it looks like she will be nothing more than the mental wreck, and not a nice sight to behold. I was hoping for more Nayuki and Yuuichi bonding too, since Nayuki’s love for him seems much deeper than Ayu’s, who recently hasn’t shown any affection towards him.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter: Part 1

Rating: 10/10

Impressions:

This is one of those shows that makes me want to screen shot each and every scene of the movie. The quality is so fucking good I died multiple times by looking at the backgrounds. And since the whole show is comprised of 99% backgrounds, you can estimate the number of times my heart failed. This show definitely does not disappoint, with quality that makes Kanon look like Yoakena in comparison, and a familiar yet fantastic story about distance, which is both super sweet and oh so sad. Unfortunately, the actual movie, with all three parts, won’t air in cinemas until next month, so I guess we will have to wait for a DVD to see the rest.
