D.Gray-man: Episode 16

Rating: 8.7/10
Impressions:
It seems like everyone is bashing this show now because of the fillers, and it’s getting really frustrating. Someone please tell me what is wrong with this episode, apart from the fact that it is not from the manga? I really do NOT see anything wrong. Even the quality is good; high for D.Gray-man standards. And more Linali love! The numerous Linali-tribute shots were quite a surprise, as once again Kanda is absent for most of the episode. The directing of this episode is a nice change as well, with Kanda starting his fight right at the beginning, then moving forward to other characters which explain his situation.

8 commentsNew Poll: Favourite show of winter 2007?

Alright, I thought that starting from now, I’d do a post for whenever I put up a new poll, basically to talk about the old poll and to introduce the new one, so more people will be aware of it. I’ll probably change the poll once or twice a week, depending on what I have in mind. Anyway, the new poll is your standard ‘What’s your favourite show?’ question. Simply choose your favourite show from the 2007 Winter Season based on first impressions or what you have seen so far. This means Kanon, Death Note, Code Geass etc. are not included, as they started last season. Also, shows such as Bleach and Naruto definitely are not included. And please don’t spam votes…I check the logs everyday and will catch those who do.

17 commentsNegima!? Episode 13

Rating: 9.2/10
Impressions:
Well, plot-wise the episode didn’t go anywhere, but it is full of action and comedy, which more than makes up for it. I don’t think it’s as funny as the last episode, but it’s a lot more exciting. And I’m wondering when Negi is going to return back to normal. He can’t stay a Chupacabra for long as he needs to be in his mage form to initiate the provisional contracts with everyone. And when that happens, hopefully we will get to see their powers! What I hope doesn’t happen is Negi wiping everyone’s memories to regain his magic certificate. That would be a good waste of a few episodes with everyone knowing about everything, though I suspect that is how it will be.

Impressions:
I’m liking Shiori’s arc more than both Mai’s and Makoto’s at the moment (don’t kill me) mainly because Shiori’s problem is more natural. Makoto, being a fox spirit, is too erratic for my liking, as were the demons that terrorise the school during Mai’s arc. Shiori’s arc reminds me a lot of Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, which is about a girl who has not long to live, staying out her last days with a boy in the same hospital. However, this episode doesn’t really make me feel sad for Shiori, which I believe will change later on. The next episode seems to be the last episode, though the arcs so far haven been 4 or 5 episodes, so I’m not sure.

20 comments2006 Anime Awards + Favourite 5
The 2006 Anime Awards have been finalized (finally) after a month of 2007-ness. Along with these awards, I have also included my own personal favourites for the year 2006. Also, please don’t bash me for choosing ‘over-hyped’ series. A series is actually only ‘over-hyped’ for those who do not like it as much to call it their favourites. Those who DO like these shows a lot will obviously not call it over-hyped (probably a few exceptions though). Also, the reason something might be so-called ‘over-hyped’, is because the show IS actually GOOD. Sure, those who disagree with such shows being good are in the minority. Ok, with that out of the way (and I’m sure someone is gonna flame me for saying the above things), let’s move on the awards!
(wow not one picture huh? yeah i’m super lazy…)

Rating: 9.3/10
Impressions:
Another two-chapter episode, covering the agreement that Rem would kill L, and at the same time, the capture of Misa, who then surrenders ownership of her Death Note. And finally, Light says goodbye to Ryuk…WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Well nothing much, except A BIG twist in the story, so yeah. Anyway, quality = bad again. Well, it’s always pretty bad now, so I’ll just say it’s average from now on. Story wise, like I said it covers two chapters, 32 and 33. Also, chapter 34 is the last chapter of volume 4! Wow, we’re already a third of the way through the series! I’m still dreading the ending…DO NOT WANT to see it…

Fixed Mind
Single: SHnY 7th Char. Album - Kimidori Emiri The 7th Character Album of the popular Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu series has been released recently, along with the 6th (which features the cute Imouto-chan). Of these two albums, my favourite song is this one, Fixed Mind, sung by Shiratori Yuri. Actually no, it is now my favourite song of ALL the character albums. Better than Cool Edition (Asakura Ryouko), and better than Seishunii Janai Katsu (Tsuruya-san). And wow, Emily is meant to be a very minor character, but is enough to tribute an album to her (or single, as it’s only 2 songs). |

12 commentsVenus Versus Virus: Episode 2

Rating: 8.6/10
Impressions:
I know a quite a few people must be disappointed after watching this episode, which heavily develops Sumire’s character by exploring her recent past. However, I’m not the kind of person who only wants action in an action series, and it’s the same with other genres. This type of episode would otherwise turn up sooner or later, and I rather like it, so I have no problem with it coming this early. But with that out of the way, hopefully the story can really begin. Now I wonder how the plot will work. Will there be a set goal, or a loose one like ‘exterminate all viruses’ and the story will just go in a random direction and somehow have an ending.
