2007 not-so-typical-Anime-Awards -RESULTS-

Although this is a bit late, the awards have finally been awarded! Last year I included my favourite five anime of the year, but I’ll put that in a separate post later. There was some issues with spamming in the polls, but I won’t get into that…One thing to note: I accidentally included Bamboo Blade in some of the polls, if not a lot of them, as I was under the impression it was a 12-13 episode series. But this doesn’t turn out to be the case…Not much else to say, so…

1. Most ‘I want a sequel’ show -

CODE GEASS
Votes obtained: 79
Percentage of total votes: 24%

Runner ups: Darker than BLACK (46), Claymore (36)

For me, definitely has to be Code Geass, though it’s not like there aren’t any shows that come close. I would love to see a sequel to Darker than BLACK and ef – a tale of memories, even if a proper sequel isn’t all that possible. A sequel to sola would be fantastic as well, though I have no idea how that would work.

2. Most ‘The manga is soo much better’ show -

DEATH NOTE
Votes obtained: 78
Percentage of total votes: 29%

Runner ups: Claymore (74), Negima!? (44)

I would have to say Death Note as well. But the manga really only shows superiority when the anime starts nosediving near the end due to lack of time. I haven’t read the Claymore manga, so I can’t comment on that, while I don’t really like comparing Negima!? to the manga, as the two are actually spinoffs. There IS a Negima!? manga, but I assume you all assumed it was Mahou Sensei Negima, the original.

3. Most rewatchable show -

LUCKY STAR
Votes obtained: 70
Percentage of total votes: 17%

Runner ups: Code Geass (58), Gurren Lagann (49)

Well, I don’t really re-watch anything, so this isn’t an easy question for me. For something to be re-watchable though, I guess it would really only need to be funny, and that would probably go to something like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Lucky Star or Minami-ke (even though I didn’t find Minami-ke all that funny).

4. Most unexpectedly good show -

EF – A TALE OF MEMORIES
Votes obtained: 63
Percentage of total votes: 19%

Runner ups: Gurren Lagann (53), Code Geass (35)

Yeah, it’s gotta be Gurren Lagann. I was sure it would be a dud before it started airing. Even the first episode didn’t make me think too much of it. But then things really started going, and the quality didn’t let up, and the show ended up being one of my favourites of the year. I wouldn’t say ef since I knew it would be awesome since the beginning. =)

5. Most ‘I wanna cosplay this’ show -

CODE GEASS
Votes obtained: 55
Percentage of total votes: 21%

Runner ups: Darker than BLACK (43), Gurren Lagann (43)

Like a lot of you, I don’t cosplay. So I would have just chosen based on what I think would be the most appealing. If it comes to that, I would probably say Code Geass as well, for Lelouch. There are numerous schoolgirl outfits that appear in school animes that I’m sure many would like to see as well though. =]

6. Most ‘Started well but turned out shit’ show -

CLAYMORE
Votes obtained: 52
Percentage of total votes: 15%

Runner ups: Death Note (50), Zero no Tsukaima II (45)

I haven’t read the manga of Claymore, but regardless, I don’t think the ending is that bad, as it sets itself up for a sequel. But then I guess it’s the same as something like Mahou Sensei Negima, but not as bad, so I can understand where those manga readers are coming from (and those who just don’t like sequels). But personally, I would say Death Note (and again, I’m influenced by the manga)…

7. Most ‘I wanna be in this anime’ show -

LUCKY STAR
Votes obtained: 41
Percentage of total votes: 17%

Runner ups: Code Geass (34), Gurren Lagann (25)

This question really throws out all common sense aside, with genres such as action/fantasy, romance/harem etc. Lucky Star is a good once probably due to its cast and overall feel. But I’m sure something like Nagasarete Airantou wouldn’t be too bad. =D The ‘possibilities’ seem to be quite endless anyway for that show. xD

8. Most ‘I want a remake’ show -

CLAYMORE
Votes obtained: 72
Percentage of total votes: 28%

Runner ups: Death Note (51), School Days (44)

I guess this goes well with the ‘manga is so much better’ and ‘turned out shit’ awards, since Claymore seems to rank pretty high along those lines, despite the show being quite popular. I wouldn’t really care for a remake, since I reckon it’s good enough as it is. Instead, I would much rather see a remake of Sky Girls, but this time, with plot as its focus point, and a more serious nature to the show.

9. Show with best character design style -

CODE GEASS
Votes obtained: 58
Percentage of total votes: 17%

Runner ups: Death Note (50), Darker than BLACK (39)

There are so many different styles of character design that I really can’t say what’s best. In fact, I’m more tempted to say that I like To-Love-Ru’s character design the best, but being a manga only (and soon to come anime), I can’t really do that. Some of you would know that I love Matsuri from sola though, and that’s the reason why I would say sola has the best character designs (a little biased, I know…)

10. Show with best character personalities -

LUCKY STAR
Votes obtained: 51
Percentage of total votes: 15%

Runner ups: Code Geass (45), Death Note (42)

Like with character designs, I’m also going to base my personal opinion on Matsuri from sola. But aside from that, Lucky Star definitely presents an interesting cast of different personalities, despite not being very original. But then again, there are only a limited amount of different personalities to choose from, so it’s quite impossible in making a completely original character.

I agree on the ef one..
When I first watched it, it was dead boring..
But became unexpectedly good in the latter part..

    Lucky Star won 3 awards..huh..
Can’t blame it because it’s a good anime indeed..(as expected from KyoAni)
With randomness and a wide range of great characters..
I wanna be in Lucky Star too..

So you’re indirectly saying that Lucky Star is the Anime of the Year in 2007…

Maybe not so, but it sure was for me. I’m surprised Gurren Lagann didn’t win anything but I guess because series like Code Geass and Death Note were such big hits that Gurren Lagann didn’t get enough limelight.

And wait, there is a Negima?! manga? One that is completely different from the current Ken Akamatsu one?

In terms of best character personalities, I really think Zetsubou Sensei would be the most creative and original. I’d say Lucky Star’s personalities are pretty typical.

Where do you find such high quality anime images?

These awards mostly turned out as I expected them to, except I’m surprised TTGL didn’t even take first in one. O_O

@Chelsey- I don’t know where he gets them but for me it’s moe.imouto.org/ and konachan.com/ are both great sites for good scans. Then there’s animepaper.net but their currency system annoys me. As a last resort, 4chan is always open =X

CODE GEASS had better win the best character design. CLAMP is amazing *__* Which is why I’m still wondering why the series is not so known, but I digress. I didn’t find Claymore all that bad, but I didn’t read the manga for it, either. -shrugs-
